hotel near Rockingham

There's two hotels really on the door step of Rockingham Castle, the Hampton by Hilton, and a Best Western. They're within a quarter of a mile of each other; the Hampton being on a new so-called leisure park (a Wetherspoons and a few fast food joints being the leisure), and the Best Western possibly better located in that it's between a cemetery and a sports ground. Neither are especially appealing in my book but I've never used either and that's just a gut instinct based on location. A better bet could be the Holiday Inn (hate saying that) on the A43, which is a couple of miles out (but easy route) and is far enough away from any potential problems if the car is a concern etc. It used to be a decent enough hotel but has been rebranded a few times and does have (or at least did) have a good mix of facilities when I used the spa etc (years ago admittedly). Not the most attractive of aspects, being built under a pylon but it does have a reasonable car park...
There is accommodation in some of the local villages but maybe not with what you're looking for pool wise etc
ETA there's a place in a village called Cottingham, which is near Rockingham, the Hunting Lodge, which was popular... not sure it will have the leisure stuff but could be worth a squint
