Hello All,

I'm working and driving to MK for work at the moment, but some opportunities have come up in London which sound interesting, but i'm not sure about the train commute, so have some really basic questions!

Do you park in the station, and if so how much does it cost? can you get a monthly ticket?
How reliable is the service?
Do you get a seat, or is it standing room only for the 1 hour journey? I would leave Northants c07.00 - 07.15 and leave Euston c18.00 ish
Is there anything else I should consider about the journey?

Thanks for your help,

Clair.

Station car park is £7 - I got stung for the same price even for an evening recently. I'm sure there are season ticket options. The commute into London is far easier from MK - faster trains, cheaper parking - but that doesn't really make much sense if you live in Northampton. It's tiring either way. frown

I only have to walk across town so can't hep with the parking question I'm afraid.

I'm not a frequent commuter, but have had periods of needing to be in the city several times a week. Service has been very variable, but I think bearable. was a period a while ago when Euston had some major electrical problems which caused utter mayhem.

If you get on at northampton, you can normally get a seat on the 07:00ish trains. Can't think of a time when I didn't. On the way back its hugely variable; if you are early for a train you are usually ok. As often as not if I decide to jump on the train just before it leaves I end up standing half the way back.

Other thing I've noticed is that seasoned commuters tend to have their own coffee in thermo mugs. I stand out by having bought a coffee as I run, (ok amble) towards the station.

Its not the worst commute I've ever done.

That said, there seem to be some engineering works between Wolverton and Northampton at the moment. First I knew of it last night was when I started to not recognise the surroundings and we'd missed the time I thought we should have arrived. No announcements at all and we ended up being diverted via Rugby. I should have been hme just past midnight, as it was it was gone 1am. Not happy..

I know works are needed, but they could at least have told us and given us the option at MK..
