What to buy?

Thoughts:

Clio 172
Astra 2.2 Sri
Leon 1.8t

Any other suggestions, must be hatch / estate for the dog.
(Anyone selling the above or similar feel free to contct).

Also not old / rust prone and will be reliable.

GTti?

Just leave the back seats down and there's loads of room!

T5 a bit old now, Subaru too high insurance group.
'Little Ying' a bit too rare and rust prone.

So the consensus is Clio 172, never driven one but loved the Williams, should be somewhere on a par hopefully?

On both of those my spider sense is tingling.

They both seem bloody cheap

Hmmm, looks OK from the back, shame the front is missing!

Going to have a look at a V40 T4 hopefully, 200bhp and plenty of room for Harry.

Well tried the V40 T4, allegedly 95k full history etc.
Car was nice and tidy and looked good, unfortunately the driving experience left a bit, well actually a lot to be desired.
Seemed OK acceleration except even going to the limiter left it below the boost zone in the next gear.
Handling was decidedly wobbly, felt more like 195k miler so walked away.
Need to try another one.

Going to have try in a Punto HGT too, seems to be an interesting little tiddler.

Tried the HGT, not bad but felt cheap.
Not particularly quick either which with 130hp in a Punto i would have expected it to.

Think i'm going to try a 156 next.
Seems a 1.8 / 2.0 TS is easily vailable for £1.5k with history and reasonable mileage.
(Which leave £500 for cambelt etc if needed).

Had a chat to Northants Alpha, although they are a little dear on the surface they include brand spanking shiny new rubber bands for controling the lumpy thing along with full service and MOT so may actually be better value.
Going to try a 156 later this afternoon, 1.8 TS flavour. (No sport pack but there is one due with sport pack soon).

156 not bad, without sport pack a bit floaty and not particularly lively.
Tried a 2.0 with sport pack and was rather good, ubfortunately at 240k miles a bit leggy bit was quite good still.

so looks like i need to find a sport pack equiped 2.0 or V6, (or apparently the diesel is very good), nothig is easy....

Anybody got one to sell?

Always go for Veloce spec or sport pack for the lower suspension = improved handling & looks Lusso has the higer 'comfort' suspension which makes the car look 'high' IMO

I am now a proper 'Piston Head' i have an Alfa on my drive.
2.4JTD with sport pack. Diesel but over tickover really doesn't sound it. Lovely 5 cylinder offbeat warble.
Zips up to 120 things per other things. Mighty impressive.
Needs a few things done but i reckon £500 will see it fully sorted, (cambelt mostly but saves having wrecked engine).

Should provide many smiles per gallon!

Had a 2.4 TD5 in a Fiat Marea Weekend.
Loved it super cheap bang for bucks.
