I'm in the market for a new daily hack. I'm currently running around in a smart car [hangs head in shame] and its doing my head in! So I'm after something more interesting. Currently two cars are in the frame:-
Clio 197 Clicky
Focus RS Clicky
I realise that I may be opening myself to a torrent of abuse but which one should I buy or have I missed another more interesting option?
My criteria are:-
- Sensible running costs as I want to keep my Exige
- Fun / interesting
- <£12k
Cheers,
Si

Test drive both and you'll know the answer. Thats the only way to know for sure.
Personally I'd stear well away from anything French (no offence to those with French cars). They have the styling up there, however I'm not sure if it's just myself and people I know but they're always back in the garage to be fixed (often over silly things that shouldn't go wrong all the time). Before people attack me, I must emphasise this is my personal opinion. I had a Peugeot for 3 years and it seemed every 2 months I had to go back to get something fixed and my friend forked out a lot for an R26 Megane F1 (top spec) - after 2 months it was also back in the garage being fixed for something silly (can't remember what it was exactly but it takes the fun out of owning a sporty car by having to keep taking it back all the time). Rant over!
Are you going to use this to cart your family around in as well? If so, go with the Focus. If it's just yourself and one other then go with the Clio.

I'm biased towards Blue Ovals... but if you get bored of the ST, you can always get the Mountune pack added for extra poke.
... however, a few weeks back I think I may have followed you out of Daventry, through Norton and on the back road to Duston..?
There were a whole host of slow moving cars in front of you (at painfully slow pace).

I was on my way back after getting the car serviced and MOT'd at Guglielmi's. Makes a change for someone to actually see me driving sensibly! ... however, a few weeks back I think I may have followed you out of Daventry, through Norton and on the back road to Duston..?

Clearly enforced though
I was the guy in the surprisingly quick black Mondeo...
PS - VERY nice example you've got there.
Good couple of cars there!
The Clio (a 197 cup) is the more taught and nimble and to be perfectly honest would be as fast as almost anything down a bumpy twisty B. As mentioned though, it does have the build quality of a Lego ambulance!
The ST is a much more accomplished machine and that T5 engine pulls like a train. Razzed one round Silverstone a while back but to be honest, it's a bit of a pudding in the twisty bits. It's a beautiful motorway car though - if you do motorway miles it's the Ford without a doubt.
Faced with the same choice tomorrow, I'd go Ford
