hello chaps.

Canvassing opinion on where to live in the MK to Towcester to M1 village 'triangle'.

We tried and failed to buy a place in the better half of roade. really we like hartwell (and hanslope) but i also quite like the idea of potterspury etc. i don't quite know why but we're both struggling to 'buy in' to deanshanger.

Who lives there or there abouts and has an opinion..?!

cheers,

briSk.

ps is anyone here the crazy nutter with a dozen TR7s on the front lawn of that house in pury end? hehe

Hi Justin, we looked at the whole area a few years ago when re-settling in Northamptonshire.

Roade was on our hit list too, lovely large village with good links

Deanshanger was a big no, it's beginning to feel a bit like MK there.

Potterspury was nice, but you have to put up with a main road being too close to the village in our opinion.

Pury end, Stoke Bruerne & Shutlanger area are nice but the prices start going back up again there.

Blisworth (biased now) is lovely - good commuter links north, south, east & west. Picturesque and still has it's own pub. A good village feel but still only 10 mins from the edge of N'ton or 15/20 to MK

Or try Milton Malsor, only 2 mins up the road from Blisworth.

We don't have TR7's on our drive I'm affraid, only aircooled here. smile

good luck

Ah - The Walnut Tree - about a mile outside the village centre.
Thank you for reminding me, we have indeed 2 pubs! - I couldn't disown that one, it's got great food apparently.

Off topic but I can vouch for the quality of the food at the Walnut Tree. They're also very accommodating - recently 11 of us turned up about 15 min. before the kitchen was due to close and they served us without any hint of impatience and even rearranged seating and tables so we could all sit together.

Thank you for your replies.
Might have something to go and see in Yardley gobion so we'll see. maybe another roade too.

blisworth - does anyone commute to lodnon from here? i need to - every ruddy day..!

also what are althose sort of prefab bungalows that are for sale on right move - looks a bit 'trailer park'? a couple of nice places though.

ideally i wanted to be able to commute from MK rather than norfampton because there is a greater breadth of options... any views...

does anyone live the other side of towcester and commute from either mk or northampton? to me it's starting to feel too far away...

I live in Hanslope and can thoroughly recommend it. It's lovely and quiet, very rarely any noise or trouble, everyone is really friendly, but steer clear of Williams Close, that's the "trouble spot". I must also point out that they ring the church bells on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings - I say this because some old bag in the village shop the other day had just bought a house by the church and was moaning about the bells ringing. (Have you seen the spire at Hanslope? It's the biggest in Buckinghamshire, so I'm surprised she didn't notice it BEFORE she bought the house!)

In terms of commuting, I can't really comment too much as I haven't worked in CMK for two or three years. The traffic going through Haversham in the morning can be pretty heavy, and whereas it would normally take about 20 mins to get to the station at any other time of the day, (longer if you have a tractor or horsebox in front of you as there are only two places to overtake) you'd probably need to allow about 3/4 hour in the mornings.

  • I've just had a thought, you can commute from Wolverton Station I believe (check it first before taking my word for it). It would be easier to park there and would probably save you abut 15 mins getting into CMK in rush hour.
I can't think of anything else to write, but if you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Avoid Deanshanger, but Wicken (just behind it) is very nice (and expensive).

On you question about Blisworth,

The Trailer park is way out of the village (next to the Walnut tree) a good 1-1.5 miles from the village centre.

As for commuting, juction 15 is 5 mins away for your trips to London, in the opposite direction I work in CMK @ the Nick and it only takes me 20 mins door-to-door.

Good luck with your house searching. smile

Agreed Wicken is very nice.

I live in Yardley Gobion and don't have any problems with the place, would prefer to be in Potterspury though. Commuting to MK is easy from either, so long as the lights at the A5 roundabout are phasing correctly.

That's in Hertwell. We only live in caravans, we're not common enough to chuck our trainers this side of the county line.
