Just remembered I said I’d think of traditional Northants pubs out Daventry way

I’ll probably missed out loads as I don’t go out that way very often and I only include those that I know about and of course sell real ale

Just about all I’ve mentioned before but here’s the list working from Daventry outwards:-

White Horse, Welton, NN11 2JP – I’ve never been to this one but it has been recommended to Mrs Beer
http://www.sunriseag.net/adoptapub/more/0004WhiteH...

Romers Arms, Newnham, NN11 3HB – another one I’ve never been in but it looks worth a visit

Fox and Hounds (also known as Althorp Coaching Inn), Great Brington, NN7 4EW – http://www.althorp-coaching-inn.co.uk/

Kings Arms, Farthingstone, (a gem) with a fabulous rear garden (and I don’t like gardens) and don't miss the skittles room

Bartholomew Arms, 30 High Street, Blakesley, NN12 8RE (not been for many years, it was (is?) a superb country pub) – IF it’s still open?
http://www.brakspear.co.uk/accommodation2.cfm?ID=1...

Sun Inn, Kislingbury NN7 4BB – (a possible)
http://www.kislingburyonline.co.uk/thesun.htm

AND this bunch south of the county

Three Conies, Thorpe Mandeville, OX17 2EX (not been there for a while)
http://www.hooky-pubs.co.uk/pubs/location_maps/thr...

Marston Inn, Marston St. Lawrence, OX17 2DB – done up again, let me know what you think
http://www.marstoninn.co.uk/whatson.html

Star Inn, Manor Road, Sulgrave OX17 2SA2SA – oh dear the website doesn’t do it justice, the pub used to be one of my favourites, done up a bit now but still worth a visit
http://www.thestarinnatsulgrave.com/

AND FINALLY – to the one you may like the most, I’ve not been there for a while but at one time it was my favourite county pub, ah the memories . . . Fullers ESB induced happy times. . .

Crown, Weston, NN12 8PX

no problem smile

don't wait for summer (not always best weather anyway) or get a few practice runs in before summer

So many good pubs, nice villages and good roads out your way and down to south-west Northants why wait

Enjoy

If you should get to Bartholomew Arms (if it's still open) or Romer Arms fairly soon let us all know what they're like please

I get the train most mornings with a guy from Kisslingbury - apparently the local pub was taken over in the last 6 months and is now serving decent ale. smile

Forgot Kislingbury, I’d recommend The Olde Red Lion, very nice, pub food in the front restaurant or posher food in the back restaurant, nice lounge (I’ve never eat in either), beer real ale can be excellent,
http://www.theolderedlion.net/index.asp

Or you could also try the other pub, Sun Inn, beer should be good there but the landlord was a bit of a funny bu**ger at his last pub perhaps a stone and thatched village pub will suit him better
http://www.kislingburyonline.co.uk/thesun.htm
I'd add that the Olde Red Lion is very tidy and clean, that's not to say the others are not clean and tidy but it's a feature of the ORL

Cromwell – was a Berni Inn (?) last time I went there (on a works do) so can’t comment on it

Check these out with your village contact if he goes back 20-30 years – years ago the landlord at the Cromwell had a huge dog that used to rest its head on the bar and before that there was a big cat kept there(?) (Puma?) – fact or my false memories smile
