Nigel did you know there is a mini beer ferstival at the Malt Shovel this weekend?
No I didn't, thanks Matt I'll let Mrs Beer know as long as Mike Evans is still running the bar the beer should be in very good formBeers will be featured from the following breweries:
ALEHOUSE
BUNTINGFORD
GREEN TYE
McMULLEN
RED SQUIRREL
SAWBRIDGEWORTH
TRING.
Hertfordshire is not my favourite area for brewers but the beer was good if not outstanding
Northamptonshire has high quality brewers especialy Potbelly and Gt Oakley and this was again confirmed tonight
The Malt Shovel owner saw Mrs Beer and rushed over to talk with her (he proved there that with age comes great wisdom).
At the end Mrs Beer almost went on to the Strawberry lager as she'd been thro' the beer range and had just missed out on the 6% Buntingford Malt Shovel Special Porter but went back to the Red Squirrel Ruby Mild
The McMullen Cask Ale at 3.8% was the best of the Hertfordshire beers for me
Nice to see a town centre pub with a good mix of youngsters, old farts and old soaks all enjoying themserlves without the need for arguing, fighting (well no one spilt Mrs Beer's drink) or throwing up
