Hi all, just got my pedal bike up here, mainly to attempt to commute across town centre and avoid the god-awful evening traffic on the way home, but I was wondering if anybody knows of any trails or decent paths around the outside of town that are worth a go? I tried around the reservoir this morning which was good but I wouldn't mind spanning a bit further afield. Having said that the bike probably won't fit in the car and neither will a bike rack I doubt frown So it needs to be within fair distance of Abington.
Cheers

Hi, we're in the Abington area too. I generally go either up to Pitsford, or along the Brampton Valley Way which goes all the way to Market Harborough, although being an old railway line its quite straight and flat.

Closer to home, I've been round the back of Delapre Abbey/Golf course, although I did have to negotiate round some burnt out cars and scrapped fridges so it wasn't all that picturesque! Mr BC goes out across the Nene, just over the A45 and cycles round the lake/rivers there - apparently there are some muddy paths up that way if that takes your fancy.

No, the small one below the A45, just cycled around the outside, may explore it a bit more soon, just googled the Brampton Valley route, I will certainly look at giving that a go soon!

Yes, brampton valley way is good, also as it's an old railway line it's not exactly hilly! Also there're a few handy pubs adjacent to it too.

I would recomend the old Nortampton/Peterbro railway track from Higham Ferrers to Thrapston and beyond and the network of paths and roads along the Nene Valley .If you've got kids start off from the Stanwick lakes complex 100yds off the A45.

Interested in the 'beyond Thrapston...' possibilities. Any info on where this picks up from Thrapston; the path from Stanwick terminates at Islip?

It's possible to then pick up the byway from Lowick (a mile or so away) that will get you to around Wadenhoe but then it's roads and not especially 'easy' cycling on the byway in any event (ie for kids etc)

Pupp I havent been beyond Thrapston for over a year but if I remember correctly I accessed that area via a track starting in Islip , off a small council estate on the right as you go up the hill. An interesting diversion is to ride the old railway viaduct and emerge on the Denford road whre the railway bridge used to be.

Yes , turn right in Islip into Mill Lane and from there you can go as far as Aldwinkle 99% across country.

Have done the Northampton - Stoke Bruene section, bit narrow in places redface but a good run all the same.
