Challenge them.

Email the parish clerk under Freedom of Information and ask for details of their Data Protection Act registration (they won't have one but need it for processing personal data, which your reg comprises, if 'caught'.

Loads of sport to be had

If that gets boring, use the FoI regime and ask for dislosure of the risk assessments thay have conducted for subjecting passing motorists to laser radiation. smile

Is it any particular village, or a random selection for each day?

No they are for counting traffic flow information, such as how many, how heavy etc

Community Speedwatch is a police backed initiative where local self-important busybodies are 'trained' and let loose with past sell-by date laser cams with a view noting down the reg details of offending vehicles, which are then passed on the police so the keeper gets a polite letter. Repeat 'offences' result in a more pointed letter, then, possibly, targetted enforcement by the real Camera Safety Team (or police) if particular time patterns are apparent.

Complete waste of time

No and nor am I advocating that. Anyone who has driven with me in car or on bike will know I'm religious in my observance of 30/40 limits... thing is, last year on my daily commute, I got sick to death of some blue rinsed old biddy and her cronies pointing one of these gizmos at me when I dared to drive through her village in the Tiv. Even at 20 mph I got the treatment whereas the Gooner never once got a glance.

I did ask the very Qs I mentioned and the responses I got (and where they originated from) were quite illuminating. Afraid this is yet another attempt to do road policing on the cheap and it stinks.

If you ride a big bike and step on the rear brake as you go over them, they snap like twigsyes

Not that I'd know anything about that sort of activity of course.
Its ok as the cable is cheaper than your tyres and takes about 5 mins to replace. laugh

Are they stand-alone units, or are they linked centrally?

They tend to be stand alone units in the villages but some are linked centrally.
