Am in need of a larder unit type thing and some more general storage space to match whats currently installed in the flat. Local MFI only want to talk to me if I refit the whole kitchen and I've pretty much drawn a blank with other places.

Anyone know someone good locally that could make something up?

Try Bates in Rushden, they did a first class job on my kitchen.

I have not used Magnet for years so can't comment.
I use Howdens in Kettering most of the time , they have a design service .
Contact Dorothy 01536522927
If they ask if your trade tell them its via me .
They are very helpful , product is in stock so no six week delivery dates.
Below a couple I have fitted , First two pics basic other three framed type .

Nice kitchens Dale.

Thinking of doing ours myself. Holding the same views about MFI as you, just wondered what your thoughts are on the IKEA kitchens.?

Regards Paul.

I asked Howdens in Harborough to come out which they did 2 weeks ago last Saturday. Said they'd call us to go in and look at their design. I'm still waiting and I'm damned if I'll chase them up - hence my trip to Magnet's last Saturday.

Cany uou do the installation Dale?

Howdens was the trade arm of MFI until MFI were sold for a pound last year , Howdens still insist the are trade only , i assume this is something to do with the way the company was set up and possible conflict with suppliers.
They both sell Hygena and Schriber (sp) units , the main difference for me is i can go into MFI waste half a day being patronized by a sales person and have most of the kitchen delivered in 6-10 weeks or I can spend under an hour at Howdens and have it all delivered the next day scratchchin
The only IKEA stuff i have seen recently had been badly fitted by some one else . I had been asked to finish it off and tidy it up , wasn't that impressed but it was bottom end of their range and I was pi55ed off having to sort out the mess . Generally I think its good quality .
I am booked up most of this year so can't commit to take anything else on , happy to help in any other ways if possible .

I brought a Howdens kitchen last year on my trade account (actually pictured in one of your photos) the quality was pretty good, and we opted for solid beech block work surfaces as oppose to the laminate. We got fast delivery and were generally happy. The kitchen fitter was a complete donkey and made a mess of some of it (whish I had know you then Dale!) On the whole I would say Howdens are OK.

Thanks for the intro Joo. I run a company called Achieve Stylish Living, at the moment a web based kitchen company with an on-line store but planning to open a nice showroom in Northampton in the next couple of months. We do everything kitchen related from a few additional units to complete re-fits. The units we supply are not your usual trade / mass market retail stuff. We focus on the quality end of the market where everything is made to order, typically 2-3 weeks lead time. The units are rigid glue and dowel, all built up ready to go so fitting is relatively easy for a DIYer. The quality is high but prices compare very well with the likes of Magnet and MFI. My main role is design and to be honest anyone can supply a kitchen but very few seem to be able to design it properly. Here's a couple of pics but go here for more info www.achieve-stylish-living.co.uk

And a couple of CAD designs
