Well, after many years of trying tomorrow is the big day at Sywell. I'm looking forward to the HUGE party that we're all hoping to have.
Also got the airshow back this year which was a big success last time.
The runway should bring some new business to the area too!

MBB has spent a fortune on improving Sywell and it is in my opinion better now than ever. (I've been around the airfield since the mid seventies).
He may have upset one or two people along the way but who doesn't!
As a Sywell pilot, and aircraft owner, I still can't see where the economic advantage is coming from with the hard "All Weather" runway. There's two reasons for this.. 1, An all weather runway is only all weather if you have a suitable and approved approach system ... 2, 1000m is only long enough for light turboprops and the smallest biz jets...
1060m is quoted as "Take off distance" Do bear in mind the new runway 03 is uphill...
Would love to understand where the extra revenue streams to pay for this
hard runway are expected from??

Hi Andy,
I believe there are a multitude of different angles but probably a main contender being that the flying club and engineering department can operate almost all year, which is currently severely restricted with the grass.
Would be good to meet up sometime for a cuppa when you're over there! I'd love to see the R8 too!

Did you get the news you wanted?
My cousin has flown in to Sywell in his Beagle Pup a few times, it's a cracking place to spend s couple of hours having a drink.
Yes, on 9 Jan My cousin has flown in to Sywell in his Beagle Pup a few times, it's a cracking place to spend s couple of hours having a drink.

clicky
Just don't think the group financial controller can count 6 weeks from 9 Jan (expiry of High Court challenge window)

Quite right, but we don't see it as approved at all until the legal challenge date has passed. Been there before.....!
In which case, you might want to recheck the relevant period. The statutory challenge window for a planning appeal decision is actually 42 days from the decision date; three months is the general judicial review limitation period (although claimants are actually obliged to act 'promptly and in any event within three months...'). Might be good news sooner than you thought
