A question for CENTRAL
Which bird would I have seen briefly and heard that had a strong song at frequent intervals, quite a bit of white on the breast otherwise brownish.
Also I came accross violets out when doing my garden today.
Did it "repeat phrases" in its song? Most likely a Song Thrush. They're getting very territorial at this time on year. Which bird would I have seen briefly and heard that had a strong song at frequent intervals, quite a bit of white on the breast otherwise brownish.
Also I came accross violets out when doing my garden today.

Can you give a rough size, another bird of similar size?Which bird would I have seen briefly and heard that had a strong song at frequent intervals, quite a bit of white on the breast otherwise brownish.

All the thrush family are going nuts at the moment, I was walking the dogs at 07.00 the other day and they were so loud!. My garden is full of snowdrops and crocuses now, also saw a single primrose

The blackbird population seems to increase each year round here and like the thrushes the are going nuts. Unfortunately my dog has very keen ears and eyes
for b/birds in particular and chases them.
There's a lot of Goldfinches around this year, a nice change from the last 2 or 3 when they were very rare. I also saw a greater spotted woodpecker this weekend (nice...
) and it looks like the greenfinches are doing a bit better too. But I don't fancy Bill Oddie or that blond girl who does the programme with him...

Thanks for those links, I feel sure that it was the Pipit species. The song resembled the Tree Pipit in particular. Markings were very similar on both birds.
Yes it was in Edithweston, in the garden of the house with the veranda near the sailing club.It had many interesting birds in the garden there
A couple of hedgehogs came to a sad end in the pool last year,
