At the weekend we were in Belgium just over the French border on a CCT car tour - the Midget's alternator packed in and that repair was very expensive but before and after we managed to get a few beers in biggrin

Here are the beers we were able to sample (in 25cl or 33cl glasses normally and mostly in our hotel’s expensive bar)

beer

Diekich (lager)

Strendonk

Chimay Blue (9% Trappiste)

Chimay Blond (8% Trappiste)

Rochefort (8% Trappiste)

Rochefort (10% Trappiste)

Westmalle Triple (9.5% Trappiste)

Kasteel Blond (11%)

Kasteel Brun (11%)

Grimbergen Triple (9%)

Godefroy de Chatteau (local to where we were staying)

L’ours de Bohan (local to the village of Bohan)

Orval (6.2%)

Godefroy Blond

?St Lois Gueze Fromboize (4% cherry)

?Gueze lamlsic (4.5%)

Tourtel Blond (a mistake this one – alcohol free!)

In France – Brug (wheatbeer) and Pelforth Brune (6.5%)

Understandably, as the list gets longer, it becomes more difficult to spell... drinklick

"?St Lois Gueze Fromboize (4% cherry)" = St Louis Framboise (raspberry) - the cherry beer is called "Kriek"

"?Gueze lamlsic (4.5%)" = Gueze Lambic

Anyway - if you like beer, check this site out: http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/acatalog/

Mrs Beer was overtaken by the gravity of the situation whilst recording the last few beers

Thanks for the local knowledge Dolf, what does Gueze Lambic mean?

Kwak was available in a silly glass but the wooden stand/handle appeared to have been updated/improved, we're traditionalist we didn't trust the look of the new wood grumpyhehe

One hasn't lived as long as one hasn't inhaled Kwak through one's nostrils...

It doesn't translate - it has to do with the way that type of beer has been produced. I'm not an expert, but I believe that any beer in Belgium labelled "Geuze" is not brewed in the traditional way, but fired (if I translate it literally). The "Lambic" part has also to do with its production; some fermentation is still going on after the beer has been bottled...

Very true for a lot of them - the stages are recognised as follows:

beer

drink

biggrin

laugh

biglaugh

hippy

bounce

spin

rotate

silly

nuts

drunk

sleep

headache

coffee

Repeat as necessary: beer ...

Thanks for the translation Dolf

No falling over or even getting drunk as the beers were between two of us and over three days so it wasn't that many (Mrs Beer also had red wine yuck and I had at least one other beer not listed - Chimay Rogue)

No just bad spelling Gary, I got it right on the other thread (I think)

AND

Mrs Beer said she knows Framboise means raspberry but the bottle label also said Kriek (as a name) but definately tasted of cherries and pictured them on the label confused

Perhaps you also could report on the quality of the roads in the bit you're visiting (unless you're in a 300C in which case you wont notice) as we knew when we left French roads for Belgium roads

Enjoy your trip

Confused indeed;

Confused indeed - not sure what the Framboise-bit has to do with it...

The roads seem to be getting worse, each time I go over there. Mainly they consists of big slaps of concrete with some tar to hold the bits together. It is quite dangerous to drive at night in the rain, as the white lines become invisible through the reflection of the headlights.

Of course you know I had Potbelly Chilli Daze recently smile and the only wine I like is chilli wine from Australia

So I'll try real schnapps (not the sugary weak stuff we normally get) with chilli, thank you biggrin

ETA: we at least had tarmac but it wasn't particularly flat or smooth and we saw an overturned milk tanker on the dual carriageway at the bad bend with the minor road intersecting

Ah schnapps... Now then...

I have never tried the chilli one, but I have a small assortment from Belgium:
- Cactus
- Lemon (with bits)
- Melon (not sure I have any left)
- Vanilla
- Amaretto
- Chocolate
- Berry

Swapsies?

The sugary weak stuff is 40% - what are you talking about then? (in percentage)

Now see what you've done Pupp !

There wasn't a critque of the beers anyway just the roads and yet you've encouraged Gary to get his shnapps out again

ETA: I'm talking about some of the stuff we get over here and from places like Spain not the Belgium schnapps - keep them out of the cabinet I'll try one of each

See what you've caused Pupp rolleyeshehe
