In Market Harborough there is a small local steam engine preservation society and they are having their annual open days this Saturday & Sunday 27 & 28th July - Glebe Road, Little Bowden.

Like a local fete really with home made cakes, etc but some really nice old traction engines.

It's literally at the end of my road so I shall have a wander down there at some point.

Actually, if you have a look at the performance of some of the early steam powered cars you will be amazed.

Do you want to take a guess at what powered the first man made machine to reach 100mph? and it was good enough to be the main source of power on the railways for decades hauling hundreds of tons at high speeds.

Only reasons steam was dropped was the prep time and the high pressures reached in the boilers made it dangerous.

Don't knock it till you've tried it! wink
