Local Lore - The Legend of Stone Moses
Discussion
There's a statue in a field near Weekley, Kettering.
Now i vaguely remember something about it moving 3 times round the field on midsummers night or something similar.
We took Harry for a wander today and managed to find it.
So who knows the legend, and indeed what it is or why it's there?
(I'm betting on our pub quiz maestro Mr Skinner here).
Any way here he is:
JB is the old server still working? Whats the passwrod if it is?

Failure Mr Skinner, come on chap, you must know something?
Seems likely it was taken from the church at Walkton to save it from destruction, i imagine this would be around the time Henry VIII invented the CoE sect of christianity?
Have to say from my very vague recollection on the tail told by my deceased grandad that it was much older and predated the invention of christianity and was Pagan of origin.
Looking at it now this would seem extremely unlikely as it is styled in the traditonal christian garb.

Its very interesting. Who knows what the Pagen dress sense was like, some of the Romans thought leather hot pants, and cuffs were "in".
Would like to see that with my own eyes, a pagan statue would be remarkable. You should have asked Dave and Jo about it, but they live Rugby way now, so not about much.
P.S. Burg, the old server is back to normal, but guessing its not needded!

The legend is he runs round the field 3 times every time he hears the clock chime midnight.
He is thought to have been moved here on the instructions of Ralph, Duke of Montagu from the West Front of Boughton House, in 1696, at a cost of £1.6s.4d
Someone must know something more.
