Following on from the 'It's Alive' banter a 'sound out' is forming!
No set date or venue as yet. The gadget is available (thanks scubiedoo), the noise is available the competition is there!

What about checking the noise from the cars as well ?
The first round of noise testing will be at the next Northants PH meet at Sywell on the 4th Feb. There will also be further testing available whenever I'm about and a suitable venue can be found. I have some "rules" if anyone wants a copy

Post the rules up then... not sure doing it in the Aviator car park is the best idea TBH
Rules (well more like guidelines really)
1)The judges decision will be final
2) Any vehicle that has a “silenced” exhaust system may enter. Any system that is in question will be inspected by the judges, and its validity to enter will be clarified.
3) There will be a static test and a drive by test, the overall winner will be decided by an average of the two. Although bragging rights will also be afforded to individual test winners.
Testing
All testing will be done with a type approved sound meter. In accordance with the following procedures
Static testing
1) The vehicle being tested will have a clear area of at least 3m from all sides.
2) If the vehicle has more than one exhaust outlet, if they are more than 300mm apart then a sound measurement must be taken from each exhaust, the higher level being taken as the measurement.
3) The meter will be placed at an angle of 45o to the exhaust outlet, that give it the greatest distance from the vehicle contour, at a height of 200mm or the level of the exhaust outlet, whichever is higher, an at a distance from the exhaust outlet of 500mm.
4) Noise levels will be taken at 2000rpm, 3000rpm and so on in 1000 rpm increments to the maximum rpm of the vehicle engine.
5) The judges may at their discretion use an alternative form of measuring the vehicle rpm.
Drive By testing,
1) The testing will take place on a straight piece of road, with the measuring device no less than 300m from either end of said piece of road.
2) The meter will be placed 500mm from the edge of the road side, and at a height of 300mm
3) The vehicle will drive by the testing point, at whatever speed the driver so wishes, remember it’s the noise that counts, but any free revving of engine or back pressure popping, will void the measurement.
4) The driver will have a maximum of three passes, the highest reading will be taken.
These rules are in line with both the Motorsports Association (MSA) Blue Book Guidelines and VOSA Single vehicle Approval (SVA) Testing Guidelines

So, folk are really going to rev their motors to 'max' rpm (7+k rpm for a tweaked Chimaera) and hold at 1k rpm increments without getting any pops and bangs are they? And then do it all again for the second pipe? And how long does it take for the meter to read and stabilise? (2 x 7 x 20 secs?) Won't work mate
The Griff growl sound off was one quick reading, at 5k steady state with the meter on the ground at 45 degrees and about a metre back.

Max rpm will be whatever the driver is happy to rev to, its only on the drive by that pops and bangs will void the measurement.
One rev limit works with a single make of car but not multiple makes, I can/will only rev my engine to 5000rpm at most.
Sounds like some one thinks that they will be soundly beaten
