Cars are boring...

Ooooh... just back. 80mph gusts on the tops; pretty scary at times; and too dodgy for serious scrambling or ridge walking
Although the hill fun was a bit curtailed, we stayed in Coniston and coincided our visit with the 40th anniversary of Donald Campbell's 300+mph Bluebird accident in 1967. Quite a few folk there, including a party all the way from Perth, Australia Even had a scary wind moment at one of the memorial events we looked in on... at just before 9 this morning, we hopped onto the wooden jetty in Coniston Water with a few folk as that was the time the fateful incident occurred 40 years ago. At pretty much the appointed moment, a huge gust hit carrying loads of spray. En masse, the 30 odd folk on the jetty, many of them mebers of the Speed Record Club and elderly veterans of the heyday of the attempts, slid and slithered toward the water, some on all fours, trying to keep some sort of footing or hold. Seemed sort of apt and quite eerie, given the motto of the K7 project was 'Bluebired - the spirit of the lake...' Almost a palpable air of someone having a damn good laugh whilst trying to dump his old mates in the drink
Will post some piccies, when I sort 'em.
Also got nattering in the pub last night to some of the crew that were there on the fateful day... really fascinating and gave a small insight into what was obviously a tragic loss of a brave and determined friend for the guys we were talking to. That the man was quiet a character, also shone out.
