Well, my Sunday plans are well and truly scuppered as a neighbour brought us an injured hedgehog.

My god they're cute!

Full of fleas and ticks, but cute!

cat food and slightly sugary water... milk is too rich and does nasties to their digestion. Had a family of albino ones around for years

I know the basics but this one has rear leg mobility problems and will need some specialist care.

Off to a hedgehog rescue centre in Countesthorpe.

Girlfriend and I were staying in a travellodge for the TVR back home event and as we pulled into the lodge car park there was a hedgehog sat right in the middle of the entry road .. prime place for getting run over

I picked it up and put it in some bushes away from the road .. but boy those things are spikey lol!! Agree tho .. they are really cute

Not looking good I'm afraid.

Took her to a very nice lady near Countesthorpe who has much experience with Hedgehogs (13 at the moment and over a hundred year to date ) who manged to get the little devil to uncurl and show us her belly long enough to see a huge swelling near right rear hip and when it tries to move it drage one rear legg and limited mobility in the other.

Its underweight and not eaten for a few days.

She will go to the vet tomorrow for treatment or.........

I have been known to block a major road competely before today to rescue a hedgehog. I can confirm they are prickly little buggers and full of just about every parasite the world has to offer - not their fault though!

its amazing how fast they can run too, I always think of them as slow little things, but they dont half move when they want to.

When you hold them thumbs on top and fingers under the belly they are lovely!

Such a soft warm belly and you can feel their little ticker going at a great rate! Had to rescue one from a road a while ago, couldn't (or wouldn't) get up the high curb. People shouldn't shy away from picking them up, just use your common sense and be gentle!

Good man Alan. I hope you can update us with god news!

Does anybody remember "Hedgehog flavoured crisps" back in the 1980's?.

Contary to popular belief they DID use real Hedgehogs. Cool.

"Roast Beef?" Thats what nice people use to tell themselves, because they could not admit Hedgehog tastes so good. - Hedgehog so wrong yet so nice -

I knew the little buggers harbour lots of ticks, lice and fleas but apparently they all carry liver fluke, tapeworms and just about every other parasite on the planet so, although I'm not squeamish about most things I think hedgehog won't make it onto my menu.

I do rememebr the crisps and it was just a marketing gimmick.

Good to see that JamesUK28's childish little brother is still managing to post on his machine! Twit!
