LOL .. wanna swap?

I'm putting a new kitchen in my house ready to sell the place. The new kitchen's been planned for 6 years, ever since I moved in, but it's only getting put in now I'm planning to sell.

Anyway ... I've just taken up three layers of lino ready for the tile fitter coming on Friday. Problem is, I've also just found out there's a fourth layer which is glued to the floor. We're not talking a bit of evo stick either. This stuff looks like a clear version of tile adhesive on every square millimetre of the floor.

I've just stopped for a drink and a fag before I go back to figuring out the best way to get this stuff up - anyone got any ideas? At the moment, I'm thinking 'wallpaper scraper' accompanied by a liberal smattering of the efficacious word.

Well, sitting there peeling up layer after layer of lino I remembered this:

Interactive kitchen design tool from B&Q - hope it's of some help.

I planned mine (for ex-hubby) in Excel, got the measurements to scale n everthing hehe

Walked into the shop we wanted it from and presented them with the plans - they gave us quite a discount as a result of it.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and the B&Q link. I have tried the Ikea one and its awful.

Problem is that this started out as a "let's get the kitchen ceiling sorted where it had the leak and get the artexing boarded over while we're at it" to a "well the false beams and excessive boxing in around pipes may as well go" to the "let's move the boiler to the garage (at least it'll keep the TiV warm ) and the washing machine which will need services plumbing in .............."

Could be worse ... let me elaborate ....

her: 'the builder says that the extractor I've ordered is too wide to fit in the space we have, so we can either move the windows or have a custom made extractor built, but that will be expensive - about £1300'

me: 'you're there, darling, I'm not. You decide - whatever you do will be perfect'

three weeks later ...

her: 'I've had them move the windows - we were going to replace them anyway'

me: 'ok, darling'

another three weeks or so:

her: 'I've got pictures of the kitchen now it's finished'

me: 'great - send them over. Erm ... sweetie?'

her: 'yes?'

me: 'why's the ceiling 10 feet higher than it used to be?'

her: 'well, the extractor hood I wanted was too tall to fit in the room as it was. So the contractor built up and extended the roof. While he was doing that, I also had him add 15 feet to each side of the house. You'll love the new cedar closet'

In truth, the house is jaw-droppingly beautiful. There is nothing I would change. not a single thing .... but I never had any inkling as to just what was being done over there.

Tyre ... it's a long, long story - basically I'm a UK based brit but we're moving to New York (fiancee is Israeli with family in New York).

We bought this house because it was in the right place, at the right price, but needed lots of work .... the kitchen used to look like this:

and now it looks like this:

(Think I should have just suggested having a custom made extractor?)

Thanks Dale but as it happens the builder who has had the plans for my garage, extension and utility room popped up out of the blue yesteday so the kitchen is on hold as is and the bulding work is on again.

I wish we had spoken sooner though Dale.

Whereabout in Northants are you?
