Huge Load Will Disrupt County Traffic - Tuesday August 8
Discussion
The biggest load to move through the county for more than two years is expected to cause traffic problems as it passes through the county on Tuesday August 8.
The load is a cylindrical reel that is 24.4m long, 5.6m high, 4.8m wide and weighs 120 tons. It will enter the county at Duddington and travel the length of Northamptonshire until it passes into the Thames Valley Police area.
The load is abnormally large and too high to pass under many of the road bridges on the county’s main roads and so it will take the following route:
· A43 Duddington, through Bulwick village to Kettering
· Through Kettering using Stamford Road, Windmill Avenue, St Mary’s Road, London Road and the A509 to Wellingborough
· A4500 to Northampton using Park Avenue South and Rushmere Road, joining the A45 at Barnes Meadow
· Continue around the A45 to Sixfields, then on to Flore and Weedon
· A5 towards Towcester, where it joins the A43
· Take the old A43 through Silverstone village, rejoining new A43 to Brackley town centre, then on to the Barley Mow roundabout
The load will start moving at about 9.30am and is expected to take between three and four hours to travel through Northamptonshire. Its ultimate destination is the docks at Southampton.
It will be escorted by two Police motorcyclists but is still expected to take between three and four hours to move through the county and is bound to cause delays on the road.
Police are asking people to be aware of the route that is being taken and to avoid it if they can
