Posiible Future Events/Outings?
Discussion
At a small gathering of Kettering PH'ers yesterday, the subject got around to possible events that we might enjoy as a group.
Some of the suggestions were:
Trip to Bovingdon Tank Museum (www.tankmuseum.co.uk/home.html)
Trip to Haynes Museum (www.haynesmotormuseum.com/) (poss join enthusiasts club and attend an enthusiasts day) - (Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm museum is about 5 miles away!)
Cycle trip around Pitsford or Grafham
Trip to a specialist car restorer (Aston Martin) (Evening)
Karting (Evening)
Obviously some of these are a fair distance away so we could either Hoon in individual cars or, to save on huge amounts of fuel, for some of the more distant ones, we could hire/beg/steal/borrow a minibus (or use a couple of repmobiles if the numbers are low)and make a weekend of it. The non drinking members could drive while the beer sponges do what they do best!
Any other ideas welcome (a night in Mark's pit cleaning the underside of a P5 and a grey Chimaera perhaps ).
Maybe we could discuss more on Thursday after initial feedback on here?

Just to throw a rather biased hat into the ring...
... 20th Aug (for those who are not Chim owners and going to Chimfest) is the Dtuscan round at Mallory. I'll be there with a new sponsor (Green Star Sports Cars) and thanks to them a new full fuel system.
26th/27th Aug My birthday pissup then the LMES race at Donnington
7th October The Tuscan finale at Oulton and there's usually an all comers end of season meal awards ceremony and pissup that evening to.
I know they're all based around me and my speed habit, but the more the merrier!
Regards
Iain

OK guys, all due respect, but thes are specific, mainly public, events that will already happen and if publicised peeps can decide whether they wish to attend. Surely what we were talking about was some specific PH "outings" (for want of a better word) to events of mutual interest.
We could all go to any of the events mentioned in the original post as individuals but the intent, I thought, was to go in a group and have some fun trips together.
Perhaps just an events diary would be better but I think that already exists.

if you're going to have specific PH outings, should you not post them in the events/travel forum. I know there has been karting events in the past on there, you'll probably get a much bigger crowd if you open it up to the whole PH massive, rather than just keep it in here IMHO, unless keeping it for northants locals only is the plan. things like the balloon festival may be of interest to non locals too. you could always leave it on here and just post links in the events forums :-) We could all go to any of the events mentioned in the original post as individuals but the intent, I thought, was to go in a group and have some fun trips together.

As somewhat of an outsider, you should take my comments with a pinch of salt. For one I never look to the Events forum to see what's happening locally, to me thats why the regional forums exist, that and some more specific chat than in the P&P, almost one step up from say MSN Messenger. The events forum is though was more for the big national gatherings and anything that wasn't LeMans etc
I've only started looking in here after meeting folks at Rockingham and as a result of the support I recieved there. Until you actually experience it, you dont realise what it means for someone to come up and say "Hi I'm so-and-so, been keeping an eye on your season, hope you have a good race" etc etc when things aren't going well.
Anyway my two penneth is that there is a Northants forum, keep events for the locals here and if you go and raid another region eg a North Wales Evo triangle blast then let the N.Wales/North West folks know about it.

I don't think it matters whether 2 people go along or 200 or whether they are local and known to each other or not, as long as it is an enjoyable event.
The conversation that started this topic was more of a:
Person1 "Have you been to XXXX? It's brilliant, you should go......"
Person 2 "I'd be up for that"
Person 3 "maybe we should have a PH trip...."
Pesron 4 " I think it's be great to have a trip to......"
I suggested a couple of events (Rockingham for Tuscan Challenge and yesterday's trip to Broughton Castle followed by BBQ) which were both enjoyable in different ways but neither would be everyone's cup of tea. However, if 200 PH'ers had suddenly decided that they wanted to join us at Rockingham it wouldn't have been a problem but 200 PH'ers turning up to my house for a BBQ after yesterday's run might have been a different story.
I think this is about discussing & organsising events that the local PH'ers would like to do and if we receive a wider interest then we'll do our best to accomodate.
A bit like "Classics on the Common" in Harpenden(?) which started off as an event for the Rover P5 club in the region with half a dozen attendees and is now an international event, it would be nice if any events we organise went to that level but that is not the intent at this time.

would have to disagree with that, I'd say 90% of the things that I've been to through PH have originated from the events/meets forums, Northants runs, dunstable hoons, LB meets, tunnel runs etc.By using that forum, as well as this one if that's the way you want to go, gives more people a chance meet up with new people, you might find that there is quite a lot of people on PH from Northants who don't even know there is a Northants forum. Like you said, this is only my opinion
Maybe another idea, aswell as this one would be to have another thread like the pub/grub recomendations (sp) for good days out in/around northants, and include upcoming events too. Then if something gets a lot of interest, the Mods can move it out into the main Northants forum, rather than loads of separate threads. I've not got much to do at work today, can you tell
