Need a pleasant, preferably tranquil, stop over within 20 mins drive of Turweston Airfield, for saturday Sept 16th, for the Vintage & Classic day on 17th. The hotel searches tell me little about the area, really, and the least I can do is find a nice spot for Herself, cos she's not too keen on the car side of things. However, my criteria are: room & brekky under £60 for two; real ales in casks. Would appreciate any assistnace, folks

Try the Greenman in Brackley Hatch, food and beer are good, and its got a travel lodge on the back of it, never stayed there, but have eaten and drank there a few times

Or if you fancied something a bit more up market, you could try Whittlebury hall, www.whittleburyhall.co.uk/ but its twice what you want to pay. Other half might like it though, as its got a Spa etc.

I can thoroughly recommend The Red Lion at Finmere for a beautiful location and good food. I've not stayed there, but I've eaten there and the food is lovely and the locals very welcoming.

Approximately 8 miles from Turweston

Directions here

They don't seem to have a website, and I'm not even sure they still do rooms, but here's the details.

The Red Lion
Buckingham Rd, Little Tingewick, Buckingham, Buckinghamshire MK18 4AG

Did you try the Green Man at Brackley Hatch? As Matt said it's nice and the food is good.

Most of the Eurohoon meets tend to be there, and they're not the type of people to slum it!

Green Man? Sure did, Tracey; the Premier Inn is full. Nearest Prem Inn with room is at Harpole, Northampton; or the one in Rugby. Her good self will kill me if I spend too much on a room - so, whilst I dont have to worry about going too posh, the nicer pub accom tends to be in that range anyway.

found this link

They're all quite close.

If it were me trying to find somewhere, (based on price and location) I'd try The Crown Brackley, The Saracens Head Towcester, Best Western Beales at Buckingham, Shires Motel at Wicken, Hatton Court Hotel Hanslope (that's down the road from me, it's a bit further out than you wanted, but the wife would love it!!) I've put them in order of distance from Turweston.

Really good of you guys to help. None of those have a room, Tracey, apart from the Crown, but at the quoted £100 b&b a night, I was thinking of ringing to barter; then I read the ratings; now I aint so sure. Matt - the Saracens are full, too.

There's still time

You could try these. The Cock Hotel Stony Stratford A bit further out than you wanted (North Milton Keynes) and slightly more expensive, but I drink in there often, and it's a nice place.

Or there's some B&Bs here.

You might have more luck with a B&B as you're contending with the wedding season and most places get booked up very quickly

B****y Williams is in concert on the 16th at Milton Keynes, so that's why all the rooms are taken near you guys. As a confirmed rock & blues man, I was aghast when the lovely lady at Furtho Manor guessed I was attending it

scanning ....

How about somewhere a bit further over Oxford way, its not far from some gorgeous Oxfordshire villages, like Bladon where Blenheim is or some of the villages around Eynsham, its far away enough from MK yet close still to Turweston- I'm guessing within half hour drive, maybe less.

Yippee! Astwell Mill, nr Helmdon. Looks lovely at a great price. Can do Stowe Gardens saturday & get to a welcoming pub for dinner at night before a gentle bimble to Turweston in the morning.

You guys have been AMAZING with your help Why not get over to the VAC on the day? If Vera is ready - thin chance, at best - she'll be there (old girl - cameron green). If not, Bluey has been given special dispensation by the RoverP6 Club

Will post re quality of accom after the event; may help others in future.
