Matt, yeah that`s it. But i was thinking along the lines of "local banter for local people." Seems to me that most threads eventually end in wind-ups, jokes and inuendo. What does everyone else think?

Sounds like a great idea to me, just have one thread for the rubbish, wind ups jokes etc, would probably stop all the other threads from being hijacked with crap thats got nothing to do with the original post. ie, Le Mans thread that Mrs BC posted, I think half the posts on that have got nothing to do with Le Mans

OK. It`s only a matter of time before some comedian winds me up about central-locking, love-life failures or going shopping!

Although, I think that there was a thread on Pie and Piston called something like the lets talk crap thread, lasted 3 pages then everyone went back to using pie and piston

Personally I'd rather see people learn to exercise more control over their keyboard. Maybe they could read what they've written and if it's a load of pooh that's not relevant to the thread, press the BACK button rather than SUBMIT REPLY and take it to MSN instead.

Friendly banter is what makes this site. Especially as the Northants section has fewer members it is easy to deal with.

However the overall PH site can be frustrating when serious threads get filled with general banter you need to wade through to get the info you want.

The Pie and Piston is where all the nonsense happens! Far too much for me to keep up with!

Looks like I'll be removing the Northamptonshire forum from my preferences then, coz I don't want to read half the crap that's posted in here and the threads that start off interesting get hijacked with the sort of bollox I don't want to read.

Maybe I missing something here, but isn't it the good natured banter here that attracts most people to the forum in the first place. If we're going to turn it into techie geeksville, then I'm outta here man....

I'm all for the good natured banter, I think that's its more that when someone has started a thread with a specific topic that you then have to trawl through all the rubbish thats gone off topic or is about a different thread entirely, to find the posts that are relavent to the thread.

I've nothing against good natured banter and silliness, but when it hijacks 'proper' threads it gets very tiring.

Half the stuff that's posted in here belongs in P&P in my opinion. If they were posted in there they'd get locked. I don't see why the same rules for the rest of the site shouldn't exist in this forum.

Nicely put Tracey, I agree with you. I'm sure there's room for fun as well as the proper stuff, just as long as we exercise a little self-regulation from time to time.

Yeah, that was my idea in the first place. But a sort of PnP but with a northants slant. If local banter went straight to PnP it would sink without a trace, but as a sub-section of the northants forum it`s easier to dip into, as and when. Plus it`s much easier to put names to faces....
