Needs to be within 20 minutes of the centre.

Looking for a four bed detached with double garage in a quiet location.

What area are worth looking at and where should be avoided.

Mate of mine lives in Crick and seems happy - He’s been there for about 15 years…

Northampton has a congested city centre; you can spend half an hour getting from Duston down to the hospitals.

Whereabouts do you need to be in the town?

A little to the east of the centre, about a kilometer

Wellingborough side then, so you'll be looking Earls Barton, Wollaston, etc.

I'd avoid Upton (it's a sht hole, and that's coming from someone who's been living there for the past 9 years), but it does provide good access to the M1 if you need to keep options open.

I always liked the look of West Hunsbury, but don't actually know what it's like there to live. And as Regbuster says, town is quite congested from all directions.

Or south east, such as Yardley Hastings, depends on budget.

I'd look very carefully before moving to Crick. I am just in the next village of West Haddon. Crick has a lot of logistics companies nearby so lots of HGV, as well as freight trains blowing horns throughout the day and night. There's also a planning application in to hugely expand the industrial part of Crick.

I live around Abington Park in Northampton and have done for approx ten years, worth a look. Weston Favell village is also nice.

West Hunsbury is good, as is East Hunsbury. I lived in East Hunsbury for a few years (quite close to Collingtree Park). I live in Hardingstone now, so my suggestions would be Hardingstone or Wootton. There is a massive new housing development in Hardingstone (Landimore Park), which might be worth looking at.

To the east of town there are a few areas to dodge (Blackthorn, Lings etc). Great and Little Billing are very good value for money- definitely worth a look.

Other options- Great Houghton, Little Houghton, Brafield and Cogenhoe (in that order too).

If you're going to be near the hospital (from the description it sounds like you will be), then look at options to cycle in. There is a good cycle route through Northampton. From where I live I can cycle to the hospital in around 15 minutes (cycle route passes through Brackmills). This gets around the congestion issues.

Theres a decent looking one that fits your requirements in Brixworth. I like it in Brixworth. Has a banging curry house, nice pubs and is within spitting distance of Pitsford water which is lovely to walk and/or cycle round.

I live in Duston and like it, but there's lots of less desirable places to live around Northampton. Personally I wouldn't move any closer to town.

Hi,

Until recently we lived north of town around West Haddon. Here are my recommendations:-

Good:-
Bringtons - Expensive and not much comes up but lovely.
Brockhall - Same as above but close to the M1 / railway
Chapel Brampton - Good pubs but expensive properties
Pitsford - Good access to the country park
Brixworth - Expanding and loads of new builds. The old village at the north west is nice but it's been engulfed.
Spratton / Teeton / Ravensthorpe / Coton / Guilsborough - Lovely villages with good pubs. Not much comes up though.
West Haddon - Nice bit a bit of a big village now with multiple new build developments. Good pubs.
Creaton / Yelvertoft / Winwick / Elkington / Thornby / Naseby / Cottesbrooke / Haselbeach - All lovely.
Weedon Bec/ Upper Weedon / Church Stowe - Lovely

Not so good:-
Long Buckby and especially Buckby Wharf - Quite rough. Loads of traffic. Noisy next to M1, railway, A5 etc...
Crick - Engulfed by huge warehouses. Fair bit of crime due to being next to the M1 escape route. Noisy next to M1
Daventry - No.
Cold Ashby - On a massive rat run route esp when the M1's shut and the pub's rubbish now.
Weedon - On the A5. Bit rough.

Good luck!
