As per the title, has anyone got a gen2 Focus ST in Northamptonshire i could record some OBD data from? Money or beer tokens given in exchange?? ;-)

(I'm trying to establish the CAN message ID and data format for the steering angle sensor!)

Could also be a Tdci as they apparently all use the same SAS!

I have a 2005 TDCI for the work run if it's of any help? It has E-PAS, you are welcome to try to collect data from it. A weekday evening would be ideal.

The only slight complication is that it needs to to be the EHPAS pump that only has 2 connectors, and not 3.

For some reason, some models have a steering angle sensor mounted on the steering rack, and this is connected directly to the ehpas pump (tucked upfront in the inner wing area). Other models (the ones i need to check) are completely CAN based, and the ehpas pump takes its steering angle information from a steering angle sensor mounted up on the steering column by the indicator/wiper stalks.

As far as i can tell, and it's not entirely clear, if you have ESP/DSC (ie stability control) then you have the SAS on the column and not the rack, but if you just have ABS, then you have the rack mounted sensor...... It's all rather confusing!

I'm not sure if you can see enough of the pump to see if it has 2 or 3 plugs going to it in situ without removing parts?

"3 plug" EHPAS pump, hardwired angle sensor (not the one i need to check)

"2 plug" EHPAS pump, the type i need to check:

Had a look this evening. Afraid its a three plug model that I have. My car only has ABS with no ESP, which backs up your suspicions. Good luck with your search, if you do think you may get something from mine let me know.

Thanks for the offer! I'll see is i can find the "right" car, but if i fail i might give you a shout!

Looks like Volvo use the same EHPS pump on V50 & C30 models too (as they share the Focii underpinnings) s o if anyone has one of those with ESP that would be great????

Cheers!

Are the dates correct in the title?

Do you mean 2004-2011?

I have a 2008 Focus ST-3, so has ESP/DSC.

Happy to punt the request over to Focus ST owners club.

hey Podie!

DOH, well spotted! I mean 2011! (i think ;-)

Does your car has the "2 plug" type pump? Be good to confirm that ESP = 2 plug type.

Basically, i have the following information on the CAN message that the Steering Angle Sensor sends out:

CAN ID: 0x94 DLC8 including Steering Angle, Steering Angle CR, Steering Angle CS, Message Counter, Sign, Status and filtered values.

I'd like to log those off a running car to confirm the data types, repetition rate (probably ~10ms) and the Checksum Calculation.

if you find the power steering reservoir, mounted in the front left side of the engine bay (as you look at it, standing in front of car with bonnet open), you should be able to trace the rubber pipe that comes off the bottom of that reservoir down, and forwards, to pretty much under the headlamp assy in the front inner wing area. That's where the EHPS pump lives. Not sure if you can actually see enough of the pump or if it is covered with trim parts etc!

Just had a really good look around.

I can see the unit you're referring too, but not enough to work out how many plugs there are! frown

Will drop you an email
