Change of Speed Limit, Northampton
Discussion
I noticed today that the speed limit has changed from NSL to 50 just after the Tesco roundabout after the Mere Way Police Station on the Northampton ring road. Unfortunately, I'm so used to this being NSL that I didn't notice until I was coming back in the other direction - what a numpty!! How long ago did this change?
What annoys me is that, if it's so important that this is now 50 (for safety's sake) then why is it not made more obvious for the semi-regulars who 'know' the local speed limits?
Hopefully I didn't get a ticket

Yeah - I spotted that after the event a few weeks back - it would have been nice to have some sort of warning! Always thought it was ridiculous to have a 40 limit on the dual-carriageway between Tesco and Queen Eleanor, when it was 70 the other side of the roundabout. I suppose this "resolves" that issue - though I could have thought of a better way...

I can understand the 40 mph limit between Tesco and Wootton Hall roundabout, after all there is a school, fire station, ambulance station and police station along that section. The road that they've now put the 50 mph limit has nothing on it at all.I was expecting some grief on here for being unobservant!! Thinking back though, the initial 50 sign is just after the roundabout, but I had just had to negotiate some numpty being in the middle lane, slamming on, then trying to turn right (towards the town centre) so I was not really looking for the speed limit sign - and also as it's always been NSL I wasn't expecting it to have changed. I suppose a little local knowledge can be a dangerous thing
I'm actually quite peed off with this change. The section from the Mere Way Tesco, down to the big roundabout at the bottom of the hill used to form part of my own little Northamptonschleife - making the most of the 70mph limit (and the fact that most people didn't realise it was a 70mph limit).
I'm not aware that this was a major accident black-spot and can see no obvious reason for a reduction in the posted limit.
If this were The Lounge, I'd post a rude word for those responsible.

This, i was busy concentrating on getting off the roundabout without getting cut up by the usual numpties who don't understand the concept of being in just one lane around a roundabout. Didn't see the 50 sign, and with a fully marked up traffic car behind me, accelerated up to 60mph, and NeeNaaa, NeeNaa, got pulled! Fortunately common sense prevailed and i just a "did you know the limit has changed" question and sent on my way (sooo much better to talk to a real person than just get fined by a camera that can't tell "fast from dangerous" ;-)mattdaniels said:
Another one that's changed is off of the M1 jnc 15 roundabout down the 508 towards Milton Keynes - was a NSL is now a 50 and there's a Truvelo camera there so I bet a few peeps are getting caught out.
The 50 mph limit kicks in at the Courteenhall turn along there. Still national speed limit off of there junction until then. Goes back to NSL the other side of the canal bridge near Stoke Bruerne.Supposedly all of the static speed cameras in Northants were turned off quite some time ago (not the red light cameras though).

And the section past the speed camera near the motorway junction is also now a 50 instead of NSL.
