Garage recommendation needed - american vehicle
Discussion
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent garage in the Northants area (or within approx 20-30 miles of Daventry) who are either American specialists or have known experience with yank motors.
The only one I've come across through a quick search is Anglo American in Brixworth - does anyone know if these guys are any good.
Regular servicing/maintenance will be done at home, but the vehicle has an intermittent engine fault we want someone to look at.
Thanks!

I'd have thought you'd be looking Rushden/ Higham way with your name
could it be a set/tuning issue rather than engine
there's a place down Letts Road, Northampton that has Yanks stuff outside everytime I go passed
when I had an Holley carb problem I was recommended a chap who had the car for a week and couldn't find the cause but stilled charged me - if I see his name mentioned I'll tip you the wink - I took it elsewhere and 20 mins later it was running fine and the chap didn't want to charge me at all, unfortuneately he's dead now (Trevor Shaw of Shaw & Upton, Daventry)

Thanks na.
We're just outside Daventry, but have spent quite a bit of time at Santa Pod though, with hindsight we should have bought a house nearer to there, or Shakey!
Yes, it could be a set up issue - it's hesitating/popping on acceleration from cold - it 'feels' like it could be overfuelling but the plug colour disagrees with our thoughts on that. Would rather get it checked out as it could be a multitude of electrical things causing the issue too. It's not the car in my profile pic BTW - OH has a Dodge Ram.
I'll see if I can track down the place on Letts Road. I remember Shaw & Upton in Dav - didn't realise Trevor Shaw had passed away though

yes if you put any new parts on recently suspect those too, anything with rubber, electric ignition parts - rotors, condensors(?), caps, points(?) - if you need a new set of leads these are very good, their own but they make for other known mames - http://www.performanceleads.co.uk/ they also made to length/endsalteredracer said:

yes I thought it might not be that one, I remember those running when I use to spectate at the Pod late 70s early 80salteredracer said:

unless it's a paint place but the Yank cars didn't look freshly painted (unless it's accident repair)alteredracer said:

a few years back now (well before the business closed), he was a great chap to be a customer of, fag and long screwdriver only required to make adjustmentsmrloudly said:
Pete's an engine builder... he won't be interested in working on an engine while it's installed in a car; his facilities are not geared-up for that.I'd recommend Hauser Racing... had occasion to use them just recently and found them to be very fair and a good labour rate to boot (less than Paragon's).

He sorted my big block Ultima and from what I remember it was screwed to the car at the time...
That would definitely be an exception to the rule then... I've never known him to work on an engine unless it's on a stand in his engine build room. You must've caught him on a very good day, or be a long-standing and very good customer.Gassing Station | Northamptonshire | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
