Does anyone know the history / story / demise / current ownership / situation of The Carrington Arms in Castlethorpe?

Drove through there today and seemed like a nice spot to stop for a drink but on closer inspection it was borded up and non functional.

looks like it might have been closed for a while (or open and closed during the period) - http://mkcamra.org.uk/pub_detail.php?pub=1760

pubs - use them or loose them, they rarely return now and rarer still that they return in traditional style

I don't know previous history but know it was bought by a developer ready for renovation but never got completed. Not sure if it was a planning issue.

it all depends on who owns and/or runs the pub

luckily a few micropubs are springing up, in towns at the moment, these micropubs are similar to what decades ago used to be well, er, pubs

the fashion for massive barn type places is quite recent, the clue is in the (old) name, public house, possibly even just a room or two of a house, where you didn’t go to throw up are loading up on supermarket priced alcohol before

I've nothing against these barn type places it would just be nice to have the choice of a village pub - not that most villagers use their pub even when it's there, many villages are too expensive to have a pub or shops

Couldn't agree more.

My comment was based on actual experience of this pub (echoed later by a friend who lives in the next village). It was dark and dingy. The glasses were filthy and the beer was nothing special. We left...

in that case those particular owners didn't deserve to continue, unfortunately this is a technique used to get the pub delicensed as I'm sure a grade 2 property in a village would be worth more as property than a going concern business let alone a business that has been run down

some owners have in the past given up on try to get the property delicensed and started to run the pub properly, I can instantly think of two, one in the county other just over the border, and these are excellent pubs serving good beer and good food, lovely buildings (hence very high value as property) but still the majority of the villagers don’t use the pubs
