I know there's a few that frequent these pages and I need help in identifying a bird I've just seen

Not much bigger than a Jenny Wren with bright yellow "fluffy" head (reminded me of one of those silly ski hats)

Smaller than a finch, I've never seen anything like it... Any ideas?

Thanks

Good spot, was that seen around here?

Never seen a firecrest, but the only goldcrests (close relatives) I've seen were down in the Wye Valley last summer.

We regularly get a goldcrest in the fir tree in our front garden. Not easy to spot though...

Naseby, trying to get spiders from the corners of our windows. Wondered what it was, never seen one before. A pretty little bird!

That's a Firecrest.

Did the bird you saw have a white eye stripe?

Nice spot !

Whilst you're here central, are the short eared owls still up near Maidwell ? I've been meaning to go and try find them but haven't got round to it yet. What time of year do they move on ?

Five reported yesterday. I guess they'll be moving on to breeding areas very soon though.
