hello,

you probably know most of the following but for other readers too:-

tyres especially on performance vehicles are vital components, on performance vehicles it makes a big difference to get the correct tyre and compound – the same tyre make and model can come in various compounds and variations so it’s common to get the incorrect cheaper variation thinking it’s exactly as the correct variant of tyre model and los out on the additional benefits of the better tyre for the vehicle

at 9 years old whatever you replace them with will seem and probably be a great improvement to braking, road holding, handling, ride, comfort, noise, ect.

rather than thinking of tyres firstly as fashion items think of them improving your safety and excitement of the car and tread patterns second

semi-slicks might reduce when you can actually take your car out and have fun with it

new tyres usually need running in for a 100 miles or so taking it easy on them and usually wheels nuts checked for torque after about 30-50 miles

Tyres Northampton are performance tyre specialist and deal with a lot of Porches so tell them what you want the tyres to do and see what they recommend

Hello Na and a Happy New Year to you.

The Goodyears i have fitted now are just like new although 9 years and 10 year old so well over there sell by date.

Yeh i know tyres are not a fashion item but while i was buying new i want a nice set which will last a few years as i don't do track days,my best friend has his own tyre company so ill be buying them from him,he's come back with a few makes/price's but just want some idea's on what folk are running on there performace cars.

The tyre's he has looked in to at the moment is Bridgestone SO-4 & iv asked him to check out 888's for me and Bridgestone RE540s for me,so waiting to hear back from him ..

I've had two sets of 888's on my westy, fantastic Tyres in the dry, not so good in the wet, but then I do not have a lot of weight tom help!
Get them hot and the grip is phenomenal.
Just fitted a set of proxy,s and they appear to be very good In the wet or on a damp day. Not tried them on a day yet but I am sure they will be ok but not as grippy as the triple eights, which I will be refitting in the summer.

useful info from Daaaaave but bear in mind two different vehicles with probably different tyre sizes you also need input from owners of your model and year Porsche

I'm sure Dave would back me up(?) when I say normally you'd be best to have two different sets of (wheels) tyres for track and road use as a compromise tyre will be just that on the track and road

A lot of it depends on what you want to use the car for.If you are going to do a lot of track work, then a track based tyre is a good option, however, these types of tyres are often a bit crap on colder,wet/damp roads,so a more road focussed tyre would be better. I use Goodyear F1 asymetricals for everything and they are a great tyre for me and what I want. If, however I was going to more trackdays, I'd get another set of rims and a set of 888's for example, and fit them for the track work, reverting to a more road orientated tyre for everyday use. It's quite hard to find one tyre that'll do everything. The best advice probably is, don't buy cheap/shyte tyres, buy quality. You won't go far wrong.

Have a look at Vredestein tyres. Designed by Giugiaro (apparently pinched from Pirelli) & a tyre for all occasions. I run 2 sets on my A3 (1 summer Sportrac3 & 1 winter Snowtrac2), Hitracs on our MX5 & all seasons on the rally car. Can't fault them in performance & think they look good too.
