I know its out of County but many Northants PH'ers use the B6047 on the way to Ashby Folville.

I commute daily on the B6047 - The road out of Market Harborough towards Melton Mowbray and a bikers' favourite and this morning was amazed to note that they have put in a 50MPH speed limit right through from the Langton villages all the way to the junction with the A47.

It would have made far more sense to make it the stretch from A47 towards Melton as I occasionally see accidents on that stretch and have never seen one on the MH to A47 leg of the road.

There are already enough dawdlers on that road especially the dark green MX5 that does a steady 40MPH (even through the 30MPH stretches) and has the hood up no matter what the weather and brakes for EVERY corner. This new speed limit will make it even more difficult to pass the dawdlers.

Anyway, you might like to bear it in mind when timing your journeys.

I lied, its all the way from Market Harborough to the A47 junction = 8 miles exactly!

They've also reduced Pitsford causeway to 40 which, IMHO, is not a bad idea. Twitchers can block cooling vents real easy eek

calm down dear it'll only add just over a minute to your journey

or none at all if you remain behind the green MX-5

Depends what's in front or behind me. But it has been known.

Tyre Tread has his own definition of speed limits (just after hitting the rev limiter)

Clearly speed is limited by max revs multiplied by gearing in top gear. Why we need all these arbitary numbers eludes me.

I don't mind Dolf's alternative i.e. that the posted limits are per gear.

Speed Kills! - No it doesn't. The sudden deceleration can sting a bit though.

In the grand scheme of things - I think they are a bit picky with their speed limits anyway...

If we are not moving, we are already doing 67,062Mph (?) - a speed limit of 50 brings it up to 67,112 & 30 over the limit brings it up to 67,142Mph...

Loosing you license for being 0.04% too fast is a bit too picky...

That is - if we happen to travel in the direction the earth is travelling...

It appears that if the limit is reduced to 50MPH then its OK to overtake across double white continuous lines as demonstrated 4 times in the last week by various motorists. (None of them were me by the way. smile )

I emailed Leics County Ccl yesterday, asking for the justification for subjecting all the former NSL stretches to this 'enhancement'. Might yet ask for evidence that all the RTROs were properly consulted upon, considered and made etc...

I take it you went to AF last night and experienced the change for yourself?.

I'd love to know their justification considering the stretch of road the other side of the A47 seemed more appropriate to be redesignated a 50 limit,

The stretch the other side limits its self a bit by being so bumpy and having a few steep corners , i followed a very cautious learner along most of it last night . Seemed to be better organised last night , police presence probably helped .

Yes Alan, a few days ago. In all honesty I have not had chance to really look at it but will, and will post up a summary of whatever is said.

I noticed tonight that they are concreting in posts to hold 'route deviates' chevrons which will be something nice and hard to hit when one leaves the road in icy weather.

Surely if they must put the signs up they should be on 'crumple posts'.

Speed is also limited by the risistance of the air the car has to pass through. teacher
