My old man is based just outside and Alba and he uses the Freesat which seems to get most of the UK Channels. BBC, ITV, Channel Four etc. I believe he is using a 1m dish. I know there are some Cable subscriptions that you can get. But I do not think you get all the channels as you will with Freesat.

We brought our SKY+ box with us and got a local (in Turin) installer to set up the 80cm dish, and the picture's better than what we were used to in the UK!
(For this, you do still need a UK address and bank account)

My sister lives in Florence and my Dad took her a Sky box with a larger than standard dish out, works fine.

try purevpn, its private VPN, so can stream uk tv live, from BBC Itv et and cathc with Iplayer and the like. really good and very cheap. I used it to watch all of the 2010 world cup action in english.

I've been in Verona for a 2 years now and can tell you that the absolute best way is to join the following:

www.tvproxy.co.uk

You pay them about 10£ a month and you can watch everything connected through your PC

You need a fairly good connection but we have no problems

We have a "piggyback" set up through the laptop (connected to TV) which works pretty well for BBC 1-4 and ITV 1-4 but no Dave or films cry I can check the settings and costs and PM them to you if interested.

In North Italy we use a freesat tele linked to a normal size dish and it works fine. the other way is to import a humax freesat box or recorder.

We get all UK freesat channels except Dave for some reason.

Lots of friends in Milan used standard sky dish and UK box and card - repositioning the dish to pick up UK Sky seemed straightforward. Guess that must depend on area / reception etc.

We used Italian Sky as I was on a weird learn Italian kick (strange living in Italy?), I wouldn't bother with Italian TV if I had my time again.

It was dreadful, no, actually it was worse than that...

made ITV1 look like quality! smile
