Just wanted some informed opinion on what to expect from travelling late Christmas Eve on the tunnel, through France and down to our place in Tuscany on Christmas Day.

Hopefully, services will be open?

Return planned 4th Jan start, for a 5th Jan ferry back, so I expect the roads coming down into France from the mountains to be a bit of a nightmare Sunday evening.

What do you think?

what route will you be doing?

services on the motorways will be fine but the A road services may be shut

personally I never let the tank get blow half empty when driving over just in case I get into problems - especially so during cold weather

In Winter, usually down to Tunnel, down passed Lille, Reims, route around Lyon, up through Monte Bianco, down Aosta to Genoa and then down towards Viareggio, skirting off around Lucca to Bagni Di Lucca. Had some other options given, but this route is fairly direct and quick.

Mostly Autoroute/Autostrada, so looks like we're safe for the journey then?

Thanks for the reply.

This website is good for French traffic info:

Looks like they're predicting heavy traffic on Sunday 4th.

Motorway services in Italy should be open. I've travelled up until 10pm on New Years Eve and everything was open. Should be the same for Christmas.
