Need info please, anyone local to Pistoia
Discussion
I should be in Tuscany in May and want to go to as much as I can fit into my stay.
I Googled Italian rally championship ,actually had to type it in Italian to get meaningful results, and found a
rally listed on May 16th in or near Pistoia.
Anyone have any local info ,any website links that will prove useful ?
I believe it takes place just north of the city ,on roads leading up to Abetone.
Thanks to anyone with some help.....

Rally names are.......
Rallye della Valdinievole....date 18 and 19 May
or
Rallye degli Abeti e dell' Abetone....date 1 and 2 June.
Found a different website with these 2 rallys, different dates than I quoted before
Glad I popped in here and spotted this one.Rallye della Valdinievole....date 18 and 19 May

We're over for MotoGP at Mugello, but will be staying at our place in Bagni Di Lucca. Often heard cars running up the SS12 towards Abetone, so might some some of the cars competing on those dates as it's same weekend as MotoGP.
Hi there.....I'll be just down the road from you ,also going to Mugello.
I found these rallies on the net but as info seems difficult to find ,I'm going to do a recce a couple of days before and see if I can
find any posters or info locally on the location and times .
The internet is quite poor or non existent in my village so finding info once I'm there could be difficult too.
ETA....my BiL ,whose house it is I stay in ,has also said he's heard rally cars running up and down the local hills,
possibly on the left side of the river Serchio ,but he goes to the house at different times from me.

StuB.......did you get to go to this rally ?
I didn't ,read on.
For starters ,I'm fairly sure that the date was the original one on 1st /2nd not the weekend after ,no idea why websites were
giving out duff info on this.
I went up to San Marcello Pistoiese and surrounding villages on the 5th ,to see if I could find anything about it.
I saw some tyre marks on the road ,suggesting some action had already taken place ,then I saw a sign on a gate post.
It was a sign left over from the previous weekend with "Divieto di Transito" on them.
I couldn't even remember my way back down to the SS12 and took a drive up the hills instead ,nice day for it though.
I nearly didn't get to go to Mugello either due to problems with the worldwide courier who use yellow vans being unable to
locate my ticket delivery in their system ,when it was likely sitting on a shelf in the Borgo A Mozzano delivery point all the time.
Located in time luckily.

We made it over for Mugello MotoGP weekend, had a great weekend, but didn't see anything else and certainly didn't hear any 'interesting cars' passing.
Heading back over next week, for family to enjoy the school holidays.
I didn't want to reveal beforehand but I was there for 6 weeks total and on the whole had a great time in Tuscany.
Bit miffed about missing the rally.
I came home on the 11th and 12th June and missed the VERY hot weather but the drive home through Emilia
and Trentino up to Austria was still HOT and very enjoyable.
Glad you had a good time at Mugello ,although I got too hot there too.
Ciao.

As the Italy forum is so busy.....i thought I'd finish this off with a positive note.
After more Googling of rallies in Italy ,I found another Rally Pistoia ,this time the poor website named the 4
village locations ,either south or west of the city where the 4 stages ,each run twice over 2 days were to happen.
On Saturday 5th October I drove the short distance from Lucca and took to the hills south of Pistoia and came across
San Baronto ,I was actually looking for the shakedown stage not far away.
I did find the shakedown stage by chance when I saw a rally official car turn up a road I hadn't explored yet ,I followed and found the
start gate of the shakedown and went back to San Baronto later for stage 2 I believe.
shakedown.
Stage 2.
I should have gone back for the Sunday too but didn't.
