Hello,

Last year my comany organised a massive gig for all our dealers/distributors in the Veneto region (North). Some colleagues and I were there for over 6 weeks so we had several cars rented between us (3 names o mine with me as main driver).

Now I have just received a speeding fine (157km/h) with the stamp on the enveloppe stating 31/08/2011, it was recorded on the 16/06/2010 (!) which was a thursday, on the A14 around Pescara. These details are important as I know exactely who was driving (we had a proto running in the South and one of the lad had to bring him some spare parts in double time).

Question:
- how do I go about it? I am trying to get hold of Hertz to see if they can confirm there were 3 names registered on the car.
- would a fixed speed trap record a face of the driver? would that be a line a defence?
- do I just let it go bearing in mind that I have been back and rented cars a dozen times since that time in Italy?

It's also mentionned on the letter that passed the 60 days I've had to pay up, I'll be liable to pay half of the maximum amount: do you what it is?

Apologies for the long winded post, I am not trying to wiggle out of it since my company has already told me they'll pay if needs be but the guy who was driving the car at the time is no longer part of the company and it seems a bit starnge that it took over a year for the fine to arrive.

thanks for your help.

I'm not a lawyer, but you can avoid paying the fine because the Italian law says that the fine should be sent to you less than 150 days after the violation, otherwise it is null.
Be sure to keep the documentation for any future reference.

Prob a whole load of tosh! Don't worry about it.
As you received it later than 150 days (as said above) you are alright.

A few years ago I had to contest a fine I got for "Apparently" doing 130kph in a 90kph zone!
Funny thing was is that I had not been on the "said" road for 9 months! On that particular day as well I was 200km (circa) away from the "said" road as well!!

There was a scam going round a few years back, something to do with the rental car peeps passing on details to scammers etc.
