I know about 100 or so Invader estates were built.

How many are running around?

At the last count earlier this year, there are about 20 currently taxed and road legal and a few more in garages being restored.

Always trying to find the many missing ones, so please send any details or info about estates to me please

Thanks.

I quite fancy one, I have enough projects so it would have to be a going concern.

I'm a bit welsh, I cant bring myself to buy a modern car and I need an estate!

These are digi photos of real photos (therefore poor quality) of my Invader Estate GVO 981K which I had for a year in 1990/91. The colour is British Standard Purple.
I had a lifetime of unreliability in that year, but by the time I sold it, it was sorted!!

Funnily enough I had a Lambretta in a similar colour about that time.

That car would do me.

I didn't appreciate it enough at the time. They don't all have a nice dash - some are like planks of plywood, but this was walnut. I paid £3500 when I bought it, and got £3500 when I sold it a year later. It's probably worth more than that now if it's been well looked after.
It was red hot inside in summer though!!! And the leccy windows were like snails. That steering wheel was Cortina 1600E, but I later found a genuine wheel at Newark Autojumble, along with two new rear quarter bumpers which I think were Triumph 1300/1500.

This car was still in regular use until early 2006 when the last tax disc expired.

Possibly still the same colour.....

If you have any other info or details oon the car would really love to hear from you, as being the GOC Estate historian, I'm always looking for any bits of history about the cars..

Hi Grahame, as you're the man to talk to regarding estates I wonder if you could answer a question for me. My eldest brother used to own a white one, reg. OUL99L, if I recall correctly. Would be be nice to know if the old girl is still up and running somewhere getting the love she deserves. It was a cool car that my brother and I have fond memories of.

Cheers

Rob

According to my records the car is still running and is currently taxed and road legal.

If you or your brother have any pictures of the car, I would love copies for my files please..

Hi Grahame,

Almost forgot to check back on this thread. I'll talk to my brother, as I'm sure he'll have some photo's tucked away somewhere. He owned her pre digital photography, but he has a scanner so should be able to sort something out.

Nice to hear she's still up & running, thanks.

Hi there, I love Gilberns and very nearly bought one 4 or 5 years ago, but at which time my job was a little uncertain, and held onto my bit of cash (fortunately!, as my job did come to an end). Anyway, the Car was a 1969, Genie, OBO 5O1G. Anyone know where it is now?. I'd love to see my old friend again!. :-)
