Hey Guys,

Apologies for jumping into this forum without an intro but I'm hoping to get a little advice from you:

My girlfriend is a student out in Maastricht and had a smash involving her VW Polo and a pole in the ground that she didn't see!

Anyway, the main thing is she's ok but her car has taken a bit of a beating as you can imagine. It's with the recovery company at the moment but she would like to get it taken to someone trustworthy and knowledgeable who can give her an honest opinion on whether it's a write-off or whether it's repairable.

She is completely out of her depth and non-mechanical and was ready to just have it scrapped but I would like her to get it looked at, just so she knows for sure.

Any recommendations or suggestions from PHers in the locality would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance Guys...

Hi, try ASN Autoschade Maastricht and ask for Giel Kicken. He's friendly and honest and will tell you what you want to know.

Tell him you were referred by the guy who took a BMW 316 Touring there a few weeks ago with the issue with the spring on the right front side replacement.

Btw you could also try Petit Jean in Geleen. I personally haven't been there but I have heard from a reliable source that they are very knowledgeable and capable when it comes to serious damage repair smile

Hey guys,

Thanks for the recommendations - sadly, she had slightly underestimated the state of the damage when she spoke to me at first!

She got caught out by one of those automatic bollards that rise after a red light (she didn't rub it but was crawling due to looking for a space so it shot up and basically, cracked the gearbox, broke the rear end and set off every airbag in the car.

From that brief description, I surmised that an 8 year old Polo would not be being repaired! It's now at the scrapper in the sky...

Will keep your suggestions though, in case there's another!

Gutted, there are a few of those around - you see it all the time unfortunately, usually Belgian motorists though.
Aye, she's German so came as something of a shock to her. I'm surprised she can be considered to be 'at fault', to be honest. It seems to suggest that it's a punishment for driving too slowly hehe

10 minutes before an exam though, so she was pretty shaken!

ETA - just saw your post earlier asking if it was a bollard near the Vriedhof. I'm guessing it probably was - I've only been out myself once but I do remember them, now you mention it. Lovely city, I thought, with some very friendly people. Will be back over beginning of Dec for some Xmas shopping with her so hoping it's nice in Winter time!
