I'm applying for jobs at the moment and there is quite a strong chance I will geting something in the north of Holland, to which end I was thinking of taking my UK car over to Holland with me.
As I understand it, the tax on cars is quite high over there so I would be better off having a UK tax and tested car.
Can anyone see any problems with this?
I want to get another Ultima too, but I'm not sure it would be worth taking to Holland as I hear the speed traps are a night mare and all the roads are straight and flat.
Advice please
Peter

Info on importing your car into Holland :

Is it just a temporary thing or you intend to stay there ?
Speed traps are a nightmare but as long as you don't go too crazy it's not that bad as the fines aren't that high and there are no other consequences like points or anything, just pay the fine and that's it.
Couple pics on how sneaky they are in my old topic here :

I've never seen an Ultima in Holland and a lot of people will never even have heard of it so you'll get a lot of attention if you take yours, but i don't see why you shouldn't, they're great cars and i'm sure you'll still be able to enjoy it over there.
I think the job will be full time, but I will come back to the UK a lot at weekends and keep my house in England and I have family here so it should not be a problem keeping up the MOT etc.
It's not worth importing my road car it was only cheep, so if need I sell it and get anther one in Holland, but it would be easer to keep the one I have.
There is V10 Ultima south of Amsterdam

There are quite a few nice roads over here . . . without speedtraps. Although you can always get a lasergun copper.
The Autobahn is near . . .
Check this:

You'll find traffic in the Randstad - Rotterdam/Utrecht/Amsterdam area - a nightmare. No respect and bad driving.
Dutch Van der Kooi Lotus importer does Ultima if I'm right. There's a 600 brake CanAm running over here.

i'm uk based but looked into this recently. as far as i understand it, if you have owned the car for more than 6mths you can export it anywhere within the EU without paying import duties provided you take it with you along with the rest of your possessions.
the rules for importing into NL outside of this agreement are pretty confusing, but based on VAT plus a tax payment based on the age/value of the car.
i understand that for higher value cars its easier to keep it UK registered and insured with eurowide cover.

I provided a similar answer to a similar question in a previous post - If I knew how to paste a link I would . . .
You first need to phone the official Ultima importer in Holland which I think as a previous poster suggested is Van den Kooi - they indeed do look after a yellow V8 although it wasn't there yesterday when I got some new tyres
They will give you the net price of the car in NL.
Then you can phone the Douane and get the approximate amount of BPM you will need to pay to decide if it is worth your while bringing the car over.
BPM is depreciated once the car is 2 years old. I "only" had to pay EUR4k on a 2004 111R Elise which in the grand scheme of things is nothing compared to the price of a new Elise here (EUR65k !)
You bring the car over with your V5 and certificate of conformity (I think its called that anyway), go to an RDW inspection station, pay your inspection fee and BPM. Then after a couple of weeks you have your Dutch car papers. You take the car to get an APK (MOT) at a good garage who will flatten our your headlamp beam (don't let the RDW APK your car !) and bobs your uncle !
Shiney yellow licence plates.
If you want to drop me a PM I would be happy to give you a bell to help out.
