TVR Price Differences
Discussion
I am aware that there are quite a few TVR owners here in the Netherlands, and I have been on the look out for a Chimaera for a while (I'm still saving!).
I was just wondering if anyone knows why the price difference is so great on two relevantly similar cars? Am I missing something obvious?
This for €14.5k plus BPM

and this for €42.5k:

Obviously, the first one is affordable for me in the next few months, but not if it actually ends up costing as much as the second one to put right.

One is an RHD UK import, the other is an LHD that has been delivered through the official Dutch importers when new - the price difference between the two on the Dutch market is staggering. My Chimaera has had a total engine rebuild/upgrade and the benefit of 66 hours work by Nimag to sort it before it was let loose on NL roads - still the valuation is 17.500 euro while you'd hardly find a similar 'officially imported' LHD car in Nimag's showroom for less than double the amount.
It is noteworthy though, that cars that have spent their entire life within the Dutch TVR 'network' are usually in better condition than the average UK car.

Nice as the pristine low-mileage example is, given current prices in Blighty if you can live with RHD on the continent I'd personally go with a UK-sourced car and keep some change in your pocket to source it as you go. Do a very through check on the chassis outriggers on cars that have lived on the island, though.
Much as I love (and I mean love) TVRs I'd be hard pressed paying in excess of 40K euro for a standard example - personally I rather spend the money on stuff like engines and suspension.

In general you have to check the cars VERY carefully at the first address.
That's what I was thinking - the prices seem to be close-ish to the UK ones, but it looks like there's little 'added value' to the cars other than that they are already located on 'our' side of the English Channel.OTOH one of the cars they were advertising at 12.900 euro plus BPM turned up in the classifieds a few months later at a garage asking 27.900 - hopefully the car was truly and well sorted at that point...
FWIW I think Nimag is way - I mean way - to optimistic about ever selling a car with the prices they ask. Mint or not, it's a TVR.
I mean, 42K for a Chim . . . Andrews was a sound one and went for less than half that.

I know a good private sale, please PM if want to know. Belgium guy.
And no, it's not the 289 Trident vert which would do about 40-60K euros.

And RHD. Makes all the difference. You and I can say it's too much, the market decides otherwise (the prices for LHD cars in the TVRCC Netherlands classifieds are not that different).I mean, 42K for a Chim . . . Andrews was a sound one ...
