Mini Cooper S R56 - Sat Nav Where am I?
Discussion
I am sure they will want to charge at least £50 to reset the system, you should have a look in the hand book first, normally your ok to take the dvd out and start the system. Every so often my sat nav in my daily car will do the same and I just pop the card out and it sorts its self out
Yeah I've had a look through the handbook but nothing too promising. When I finish work will take the Cd out, start her up and see what happens when I put it back in. No way im going to pay £50.00 + if its an easy fix!
Thanks once again!
If anyone else has any other ideas I'd be grateful.
Regards,

Right, My weekend consisted of:
Disconnecting battery for 60 seconds.
Removing all fuses for sat nav for 60 seconds.
finally I managed to find how to put it in diagnostic mode and found some interesting info.
Under GPS location it says "ungueltig" according to a google seach it reaveals this means "Invalid".
So atleast I know the satnav knows sometings going wrong!
Booked in at mini on wednesday!

Gents,
Would like to say thank you ever so much for your help!
Last night I dsconnected the battery and had no luck. Therefore I Gambled it.
Took the old aerial out from in the boot headliner. Replaced it and plugged in the new one. Still showed up in Dartford. Just as I was about to launch into a "wobbly" Walah! It picked up the location!
Chuffed and now all fixed!
Saved me the best part of £200 by doing it myself!
Thanks alot,

Onemcs - Thanks. This is a helpful thread as my wife's R56 Cooper has recently developed what appears exactly the same fault.
Sat Nav is tracking a position about 30 miles away from where it should be, and has no idea what heading it's on either.
How easy was it to remove and replace the headliner?
Can you confirm the GPS antenna is built into he radio roof aerial base?
Where did you get a replacement from?
Thanks
AMJ

I didn't remove the headliner entirely, Just wedged it down. The best/most simple way was to:
Open the boot
Pull off the rubber seal around the headliner
Slide your hand in between the liner and the roof of the car. A clip should bing which keeps the headliner tight to the roof.
Then I just wedged it down enough to get a socket (19mm from memory) and extender and loosened it off until the Aerial came off.
The GPS antenna is apparently in the base and had broken somehow. Am no expert in this area however.
And the part was from my local bmw/mini. Cost £120 inc VAT which is rather costly.
Could be worth running it to workshop to see if they will plug it in and get a fault?
Have attached a link to show you what its like when I put my phone in there.

Onemcs. Many thanks. Video you posted very helpful. Finally got round to doing this over the weekend (actually my son with smaller hands was home for Easter). Mini dealer ran diagnostics (free) and then wanted nearly £300 to supply and fit! Got a second hand antenna base from a breakers online (Minispares UK) for £50 and saved a small fortune. Started working within a couple of minutes of plugging it all in. Sorted :-)
I have read your posts and I think my car has the same issue. It positions me 24 miles from my current location but still tries to guide me when a destination has been entered but quickly gets confused. I don't suppose anyone has a part number or picture of the gps aerial , just so I know I'm buying the right part.
I know this is an old topic, but i need help anyway.
My Satnav shows me 150 miles away from where i am (Cheshire) & it puts me off the coast of France! It does track my movements as i drive to work & i go North by 5 miles, so does the icon.
So having read this & other posts about it, i forked out £100 & swapped the GPS antenna over myself. Bit of a faff but i got it done.
Fingers were crossed & i started car & guess what, absolutely no change! So my old antenna was fine & my new one was a waste of money.
It has been in the Mini garage previously for the free health check, they cleared 68 fault codes & warned me i had one odd tyre (only had it 2 months) so i missed that one totally! They never mentioned satnav or any faults there before i swapped em.
Any suggestions please?
