Cooper drivers seat

My 06 Cooper Chilli drivers seat won't lower down. The seat base is raised to it's highest and now the lever just seems to be jammed and won't ratchet down again. But raises fine. Now I'm stuck with my head on the roof all bent over. Anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it ?any help greatly welcomed
