Red light - engine coolant temp gauge
Discussion
Hi Mate,
Is it possible you have an airlock in the system. How low was the coolant when you topped it up, i.e. was there any in the expansion tank. Thats the only thing i can think of that would explain it, or as imn tying, how about the water pump itself.
have you checked the fan belt is intact and still inplace and im not sure about minis, but if you remove the expansion tank lid and rev the engine, you should see the water being pumped back into the tank and circulated when the engine is at operating temp.

Is the interior heater working? If this is hot then you at least have coolant circulating. If not, it's possible that you have no cooling at all. Do you know how the fans are controlled? Are they controlled by the ECU or by an otter switch, if so where abouts in the circuit is the otter switch?

Thanks for your respose guys
I think it may be the thermostat as the the heating in the car is cold when it should be warm.
What is the coolant temp gauge showing? Too hot? Too cold? Warm air from the heater would have given you confidence that the coolant is at least circulating even if there's a problem. Since you don't even have that, you can't make any assumptions. The nightmare scenario is that you have no coolant circulation, which would result in a scrapped motor.
