Spotights on Mini 2

Want to fit spots on our Mini One - R56. Now I know that I need to purchase a new grille with the brackets fitted and that means I also need to buy the respective lamps from the dealer complete with wiring kit - about £180. I dont want to pay the £90+/hr fitting charges, and it all seems an easy fit, BUT now being told (by guy in dealers) that the car would have to go back and have the lamps enabled via the cars 'computor'.
Is this right? What charge would I expect to pay? Car is nearly ready for its first service (on TLC) so what's the chances of it being enabled then?
