Aftermarket Stereo and Steering Wheel controls

When fitting an aftermarket stereo, like an Alpine Unit, can you retain the steering wheel controls for volume and track flicking?

you should be able to get an adaptor that allows you to connect the wiring for the controls to your new head unit, any audio place should sell them.
