Hi all

Im going to see a 2004 cooper S JCW at the weekend. I have driven one back in 2006 but i cant for the life of me remember that much about it as it was only a short blat.

The car will spend most of its life on the motorway so my biggest question really is whether the JCW exhaust is a suitable partner in this regard? Im not expecting bentley levels of refinement but on the flip side my last car was an ST with hi flow cats and a miltek exhaust, so im used to a certain amount of aural entertainment!

Obviously the best way for me to find out is to drive the darn thing but the car im going to see isnt that close to me.

Im not expecting it to be a problem but thought id ask those in the know. Guess I could always just turn the stereo up wink

Hopefully come saturday pm i will be joining you all on here as a new owner!

there is no extra noise from the exhaust (not that I have noticed any except maybe on the overrun a little more of a crackle)

I have my one for sale on the PH classifieds, 2003 JCW £7995

Motorway journeys are fine in a JCW, I've used mine for a daily commute and it's great ... quite economical as well!

Mine's also for sale in the classifieds so feel free to drop me a line if you're interested.

The JCW mini's new and old sound quieter inside than the outside sound would have you believe. You can make out the pops and bangs very easily from outside, but they are pretty quiet inside. I wouldn't say it was a problem.

no problem at all the exhaust noise - especially if you get the harmon kardon (sp?) stereo biggrin

in my JCW the road noise of the motorway is louder than the exhaust

thanks for the replies chaps - went out in one today and have to say it was a paragon of tranquility! loved that supercharger whine though, and the HK stereo sounded the nuts!

Fingers crossed I will be picking her up tomorrow and i have to say im genuinely excited - think having a bit of time away from a proper performance car has made me appreciate them again

It also happens to look flippin' awesome too so i will get some pics up hopefully soon...

well....

picked her up yesterday and i have to say its an absolutely fantastic car! its such a nice place to be - quiet and civilised when you need it to be and such a riot when you want some fun! handling is sublime - far more composed than my ST was. Turn in is razor sharp and i absolutely love the sound of the supercharger!

Its mighty quick too - quick enough when you arent wringing its neck but when you do wind it up it really does fly!

so all in all its a great package and i have to say, on first impressions, the top of my list in terms of all the other cars i have owned....

Good choice, absolutely awesome cars. I added a 3% crank pulley and a GTT Manifold and it was fantastic, the noise was awesome. If I did it again I'd go the JCW 225 route with the JCW motorsport manifold.

Enjoy your car, but get used to your local petrol station....mpg will be very poor unfortunately.

on the contrary i have found with the mpg - comfortably in the 30's which equals the most economic car ive had to date!

granted my journey is motorway based but i do make decent progress.

coming from a 350z and focus ST, the JCW is positively frugal which is a most plesant suprise!

I took my JCW for its first motorway run today and the trip computer stated 42.4 mpg!

That was a combined m3, m25 and m4 journey. Not bad!

What a noise!

its true, if you drive sensibley you can easily get 30 mpg + urban, ie light throttle application etc. good thing in the jcw is that you hardly have to even press the throttle to move off and keep up with traffic.

m/ways as said easily get late 30's if pushing on, early 40's if cruising around 70ish.

stop the press....ive found a niggle with my mini!!

what a chronic design flaw to locate the water bottle for the windscreen in such a vulnerable position to the cold weather...i spent 80 miles with a dirty windscreen on monday as it refused to defrost!

still, when the rest of the car is as good as it is, i will forgove it almost anything!

did 1000 miles in her last week and she was fantastic

Don't you put something in the screen wash that stops it freezing?

They sound amazing guys.
I know the S my other half recently purchased is not the JCW version but it seems to lack the get up and go all you S fans seem to enjoy - its a 2003 - I really need to get a health check done. Anyone know anywhere in the Watford area who can do this and not rip me off.

also - what are all these model numbers R52 R53 etc and what's our one ? the reg document says R32 ? if I remember correctly
Cheers
