Discount on new Cooper - Possible?
Discussion
Just about to help my Dad buy a new Cooper as a runaround(standard, not S). What kind of discounts are people seeing from the Mini dealers at the moment on these.
Would normally expect at least 5-10% when buying a new car but have heard stories of the Mini dealers being a bit tight on this front.
Would be adding on Chilli pack, upgrade wheels to 17in's, interior trim, sun roof, dark glass on rear 3/4.

Picking up my brand spanking new Cooper S tommorow (no trade in either!) - for a car specced up to WELL north of £20k I only managed to get £600 off and that inlcudes a free £150 TLC.
Lead times are getting longer and residuals are getting stronger so the chances of a discount are getting harder. I am having lots of JCW bits added which is where the rest of my discount was aquired from. So unless you are having any dealer fit options the best you can really hope for is free TLC, however over on Mini2 I have even read that some dealers are refusing to give that now. Good luck.

Ordered a Cooper yesterday for March 1st Delivery.
Best I could get was the TLC and £50 off the cost of dealer fit bits on a car spec'ed up to £18K
They did offer 3% finance when I was going to pay cash. So it's worth leaving the money in a high interest account and putting the car on HP.
You can claw back a few hundred that way.

We had a similar struggle for discounts when we replaced our Cooper S (2004) for a new one.
We found they wouldn't give much of a discount on the car, but we did get them to up the p/x value by a grand. They mumbled and grumbled, but eventually gave nearly private money for our old car.... and threw in TLC and dealer fitted bits- stripes, chrome, etc. As already discussed, they can only negotiate on dealer fitted bits apparently.
I guess we were lucky in swapping a Cooper S for another one - they can't sell the new car on class leading residuals and then try and stuff you on the part ex - not for the same model in the same transaction
