Big safety issue with Mini at the moment
Hi
The blackbox - gives us basic information - speed, direction.
THe G function wasn't enabled on this early box (unfortunately)
From general gassing ..
Yes - i was braking hard, to turn into a left hander (normal every day driving for me), rapid deceleration + a change of direction, combined with driving over the traffic calming ramp (not an aggressive speed bump).
However the wheel damage is on the rear wheel. I'm 100% sure i didn't clip the kerb anyway - and I'm sure the damage is from one of many kerb strikes in the past
From the sound of it - the system may of worked as if it had sensed an impact had occurred, but i drive hard every day is this car, its a JCW, fast accelerating, good braking and very nibble - it's not like I'm being driving around like Miss Daisy for two years.
However you would think the dealership that i can't mention directly (beamer games) would just see this as something that should be fixed regardless, especially as it's my second car from them and that i had a new JCW on order !

When you hit the hump was there a sudden deacceleration?what speed did you travel at it.
I have seen airbags go off on mini's,never through wiring faults-we do get run of the mill loom faults but they cant go off unless a voltage is applied which we can see in the MRS module which shows the trigger.
As thats your nearside front wheel and you passenger side airbag has gone off I would say the nearside deacceleration sensor has seen a sudden 5 mph loss-ie that wheel has stopped for a blink of an eye enough for the sensor to say to the control unit impact has begun.
It is likely BMW can prove this in simulation if they wanted.Going by that chunk in the rim and its length I would agree it was the likely trigger.Ive seen similar in E46,E65 MINI all had large chunks or buckles in the rims,an impact/shock wave just enough to alert the sensor.Although you have said you didnt kerb it.
