Standard Mini Speaker Upgrade?
Discussion
im looking to upgrade my standard mini speaker system, i've heard that "in phase" and "harman kardon" offer such an upgrade but im curious to know if anyone is aware of another option, preferably i would like someone to fit it all because im a lil scared of breaking it
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any decent fitter will be able to upgrade your system, at a fraction of the cost of the BMW upgrades. When I bought my Works, I had the basic option (tape!?!) and spent the saved money (plus a bit more) on alpines throughout and a kenwood head unit. The only problem is the whole back of the car needs to come out to fit new 6x9s in the back as the plastic sides are all one big piece.
If your near London my cousin is a fully qualified fitter and he did mine

A simple headunit upgrade can make a fair bit of difference, i fitted my mexico pro in my s an that made a world of difference from the wave, i now have a Rainbow components in the front doors powered off a DLS amp with a JL w6 sub, but this wll be scaled down before long as im trying to put my car on a bit of a diet
As you say the Harmon Kardon unit is an option - however this is VERY expensive to retrofit - acording to my options book here its £775 for the parts - this DOES NOT include labour and as the wiring needs changing to a differnt ohm rating it would be a massive job (read allmost a day) - the system only cost £350 factory fitted IIRC. I have this and its great, however there is a better system avliable from MINI themselves.
This is called the Digital Power Sound Modul (DPSM) It offers about 680 watts of power, and uses the exisiting wiring, however all the speakers are still replaced, this costs about £1k fitted, I have never heard it allthough it seems to go down well on www.mini2.com.
Having said all that, as others have said you could get similar sound quality for half the price if you went elsewhere, it just depends if you want to maintain the OEM look and feel.
Hope it helps a little.
James.
EDIT: To clairfy DPSM.
