Tyre replaced - now have vibration above 75mph
Discussion
Hi all, I was out in my car yesterday on the way to Manchester and the tyre pressure warning light came on (I was doing 75ish at the time and didn't feel a thing when the tyre went) Checked all pressures and found the drivers side rear to be dead, anyway to cut a very long story short I managed to get a new tyre fitted for £135 (
) Kwick Fit wanted £190 though so I feel something good was salvaged from the whole escapade!
Now when I go above about 75 / 80 I get a vibration, the guy balanced the wheel once he fitted the new tyre, so is it now a case of getting all 4 wheels re-balanced or what? Just after some ideas about what it might be really!
P.S the jobs worth that sold me the car (non BMW dealer) also neglected to put the locking nut adaptor in the car so the fitter had to hammer an oversize socket on to get the locking nut off, so I now need a new set of 4 locking nuts plus adaptor, anyone know of the cost?
Many thanks
P.S have posted about this on mini2 and some have suggested that the hammering of the locking nut could have caused alloy damage. I really really hope this is not the case

The vibration you are experiencing is either a poorly balanced wheel or more likely if stick on weights have been used, if the inside of the wheel has not been cleaned with thinners or similar, the weight will not adhere to the wheel and within a mile or so one or more will fall off causing the inbalance. There are a lot of

^^ what he said its also beem known that if not fitted propley run flats can do this issue this
but get the ballance checked (locking wheels nust are about 25 quid for a set best get some mac guard ones form halfords as they are much better and safer than the bimmer ones ive been told)

When they first came out we had this problem-With 5 spoke and the goodyear tyre.We found that the fault was being caused be the tyre rubbing on the edge of the rim-gave a grating sound alot like a wheel bearing or diff noise. The solution was to break the bead, turn the tyre quatre of a turn and lubricate bead. This always cured the fault.
All of a sudden we are now finding this same fault with the late 05' modles.Again 5 spoke, again same solution.

I agree - they're either not balanced finely enough or it's shed a weight
Well these have been much more reassuring responses! I cleaned the car on monday morning and had a look at the weights on the rim with the new tyre, there are bloody loads of the things compared with the three on the other rear wheel!
Also an 'oil service' message now pops up on the first turn of the key, so I will get the dealer to check the wheel issue when it goes in for this service (being new to MINI's I presume this is normal? The car has done just over 7,000 miles... and will be covered by the TLC package?)
Many thanks.

Just to follow this up, took it back to the tyre place and they removed one 15g weight. The vibration has now been cured, was very suprised that 15g could cause such a vibration. Just glad to have it sorted now. Not having much luck on the wheelnut front though, went to the local dealer today and the guy showed me where the adaptor was kept (under the boot lining) So now have to find out whether the dealer can order just ONE nut rather than a complete set of 4.....

:ANOTHER UPDATE:
Phoned the dealership this weekend, was really chuffed that they said it was possible to order one nut, at a grand total of £3.50!!
All I had to do was give the reg of the car so they could find out which one of a potential 50 sets had been fitted to the car.
Result.
ETA:
Yet to find out if I'll get charged to have it fitted, I've left it in my Dads hands, as I'm back at uni now.
