Guys, I am picking up the new car next week and I want to put my Alpine stereo in as it is an ipod unit. Do you think this should be a major problem? Won't be doing it myself mind you, going to take it to the pros. to fit!! TIA.
You shouldn't have any problems at all. Both of my Mini's have had non BMW stereo upgrades without any issues.

Do you mean new? (R56 model) if so there will be a problem because the stereo is an integral part of the dash. That said the R56 model and many of the previous models have a standard 3.5 jack aux input discreetly hidden somewhere on the dash.To fit an aftermarket stereo on the r50/r52/r53 minis
You will need:-
1x adapter plate
1x Ariel adapter (same as e46 3 series)
1x Wiring harness ( 2 types for Wave an boost, wave round pins, boost flat pins also E46 fitment)
1.) start by removing the star drive screws in the side of the down pipes,
2.) Remove the mirror adjustment panel, is easier if you pop the gear gator out an push from underneath
3.)Lift out the ashtray from the cup holders in the plastic pannel, undo the 4 screws 2 under where the mirror adjustment is an the 2 in the front cupholders
4.)pull the plactic panel you have just unscrewed back towards the rear of the car, this should move the bottom of the down pipes forward, an with some careful wiggling they should pop out from the dash.
5.) remove the down pipes from the cupholder panel
6.) This should expose four either phillips screws or 4 stardrive screws, remove these, stereo should slide out now.
7.) wiring harness is screwed to the back of the stereo undo to remove
8.) Unplug harness from the back of the stereo
9.) screw adapter back into the dash board
10.) Plug harness` an ariel adapter into the harnesses car side
11.) push stereo cage into adapter an fix in position by bending the edges as with any aftermarket stereo,
12.) pull harnesses though cage
13.) Work backards from step 5 to reasseble dash, cup holders an mirror adjustment
14.) Last of all plug stereo in an push stereo into dash board
Hope that little guide helps
